When I was in elementary school, my family went to some Bellville HS games when the Koy brothers (Ernie & Ted) played there.
The first UH game I attended was the 1969 Bluebonnet Bowl, with the #17 Coogs dominating the #12 Auburn Tigers 36-7.
I played trumpet in the Waltrip High School band, beginning in '62. May have seen a game prior to '62, but only if we went to Jeppesen to watch the Oilers. I guess it did not leave a lasting impression. One year of almost every game with Sam Houston St, then many, many UH games. I love football, but I also have seen many UH basketball games. We, 5 or my High School friends, formed a “pep” band and went to our High School BB games. Had to force our way in the first couple of times, since we were the first to have a BB pep band.
Waltrip grad also. Class of ‘78’. Shessh long time ago.
