2022 Case Keenum Thread - Houston Texans back home where he belongs

A couple of restrictions for being on the practice squad.

  • A practice squad player cannot sign with a team’s upcoming opponent, unless its 6 days before the game, or 10 days if there is a bye week.
  • The practice squad player must be signed to the new team’s active roster. No practice squad to practice squad allowed.

Dang, I’d sure hate to see him go away and appear again in another uni if its not the Texans. He, and we, need to see him stay here in some capacity, coach, coach/player, backup, wise old owl, or gathering more eggs to take with him when he comes home to UH. I can just see him sitting beside CWF as the QB coach teaching our guys how to play the game. I’d think he would like that, not having all the pressure of the HC job and yet have the strong relationship of QB to coach commitment that a lot of kids don’t have these days. “Dad QB coach” would stand pretty strong with a lot of these kids coming out of HS and heading to college.

I honestly think he should retire if cut. Begin your coaching career while still young.

Just depends if he wants to cash player checks for 2 more years vs having to move. A team will pick him up, he won’t go practice squad. Tons of Twitter mentions for teams that want him.

I think Case would be better off coaching in the NFL until all the NIL, transfer portal, paying players etc stabilizes in the college landscape.

I’m not sure if he would be the person to juggle all that and then also have to make time to go recruit, scout, deal with demanding parents in addition to coaching.

It looks like Case’s season, and career, are over. Just placed on the IR. I could see him being the next QB coach for the Texans or Coogs.

Is case actually injured? Or is this a move by the Texans to keep him in the team without taking a roster spot? I’m sure he adds a lot to the QB room

It’s a bogus injury so they can keep him on the team to help with the QBs/Offense/ Team

His coaching career has OFFICIALLY begun!

If that’s the case, not sure why they would release Boyle. Regardless, Case is a great professional and played a lot longer than most of us thought.

Probably not. He left the last game early and went to the locker room.

He had some kind of injury. Who knows if it would be a season-ending injury or not?

they say its a foot injury

This is good for Boyle. If he does not sign with any team, I suspect the Texans will add him to the Practice Squad. Either way he stays in the NFL.

Any ideas who Baldwin is referring to?

Agree on principle since I don’t listen to any houston sports radio.

There was some mention that the Texans did this so Case could obtain his 10th year in the league. Some kinda retirement/insurance vesting. Who knows if true or not.

He entered the league in 2012, 12 years ago.

Maybe 10 years on active rosters? Idk?

I read a comment on X saying Case got treated better in Buffalo than he does here. That’s really sad.

This is a myth perpetuated by the media that UH athletes, like UH, are mid-tier and could not possibly compete with the blue bloods and the athletes they recruit. When Case came out of Wylie High School, he was a 2 :star:, then signed with a G5 university. No matter how successful Case is in the NFL, some will always view him as an overachieving career backup.

So which would you rather have?

  • Keenum a 2 :star: recruit that worked his way into a starting QB role at UH, overcame a season ending injury, and ended up being the NCAA’s all time passing leader in yards, and played 12 years in the NFL, adapting to whatever role was asked of him.
  • Vince Young, 5 :star: golden boy, played at the state’s flagship university, won a college national championship and played 5 years in the NFL and 4 more years as an offseason or practice squad member with various NFL and CFL teams.

Time for Case to retire.
