2023 Transfer Portal

LJ Cryer seems to like Damian Dunn’s commitment post and is following Houston Cougar Network that told Cryer “Welcome to Houston” as well :thinking::thinking:

Interesting to hear Javier saying “let’s get to it” - sounds like he’s sticking around.

Cryer today? That + masters all day would almost be too much

Maybe Arceneaux? Tugler is going to get some playing time too.

Are you a big fan of Roberts starting at center at 6-8 if UH does decide to go small. Wouldnt it make more since to bring in a taller player ?! Roberts seems like he is best suited coming in against back ups and just grab rebounds like a mad man with his energy play.

@bigmccoog

Well I’m sure his parents want him to come back home!

Francis could be that taller player. He’s so long and can rebound so well. He just needs to get stronger though. The problem is us fans don’t see practice and because of last year it feels uneasy banking on someone breaking out and being a starter.

Francis has a lot to learn. And hes not really taller than Roberts. I think he is listed at 6-8, too and RAW on offense. Also commits silly fouls. Has lots of potential but still needs time to refine his game.

The problem is fans see a guy getting four fouls in five minutes and wonder who’s coming off the bench next.

Base strength to go with length span are the measurements which matter.
Francis has the length and is a plus athlete. Has added a lot of lean mass.
Roberts has the base and is a good athlete.

There will be a transfer big before all is said and done.

My take on Mark vs Dunn:

  • Mark was extremely inefficient last year with a TS% below 50% ( 49.8%). Dunn is much more efficient ( 55.9% TS%). Thats a huge difference.

  • Dunn shot 68% more 3s per game than Mark ( 4.5 vs 3.2) and still shot a couple of points better from behind the arc.

  • Dunn has a deeper 3pt range than Mark

  • Dunn has a reputatation for being clutch, having hit numerous game winners for Temple. At the end of close games, Temple put the ball in Dunn’s hands and let him make a play. Thats something UH hasnt had in a while.

  • Dunn’s ability to generate freethrows and also hit those freethows at better than an 80% clip will be big.

  • If we’re able to add Cryer’s 40+% marksmanship, then i feel pretty good about next season.

Finally, my bold prediction for next season : Tuggler is going to be Sampson’s favorite player. He does a lot of little things. 6’7" with long arms. Extremely good shot blocker, hes got great footwork around the rim, he can use the glass from angles that seem impossible but he consistently hits them, outruns everyone down the floor, finshes in both transition and the halfcourt , is a surprisingly good passer and can move his feet to stay in front of guards. He’s working on his outside shot but its not there yet. I was pleasantly surprised when i saw him last season.

My initial reaction to seeing Tuggler play was that hes a SF rather than a post player. Though his lack of an outside shot may force him to play the 4.

Thats my .02 cents

I don’t know what was wrong with Roberts the last part of the season. Was it fatigue or maybe an injury we didn’t know about.
I just know he wasn’t the same Roberts who finished the prior season against ‘Zona and Villanova and played so well this season until he looked to lose his shot and his defensive aggressiveness.
Could it be he thinks he deserves more NIL money too?
I don’t know the answer but I bet Coach knows or suspects.
That said I really don’t think Sampson is going to turn down a quality big.
It would be nice not to have to depend on the freshmen but I will let coach figure that all out.

I saw him holding his groin a lot from the last game in the regular season against Memphis all the way towards the tournament. Probably fatigue & a sore groin had something to do with it.

We’re going to need at least 4 bigs. Even if we add one I don’t want to lose Francis or Roberts.

Roberts is a man and could help any team. I expect Francis to be better than the Freshmen this year.

I get that Mylik didn’t play this season.

But he wasnt on the promotional poster for next yrs team

Ramon & Francis both are.

(Ced Lath isn’t included either)

Would be weird to feature players that haven’t actually played

Yeah, what picture do they even use? Him in practice?

Roberts is a 4 not a 5.

@ehog @Hill

The picture they use of Ramon Walker is him on the sidelines in warm up gear, just cheering on the team

Couldn’t they have done that with Mylik?

Anyway, right now with Cryer we’re looking at 8 guards on the roster next year. How will that work? We shall see…

They could, sure. But the average fan has a much higher chance of saying ‘wtf is that’? Than with Ramon
