Thanks for the clarification.
Brown is probably gone either way tbh. Just brace yourself, but remember we went 4-8 last year and Dana is no longer our coach. We won’t lose guys and just not reload. Willie has a Sampson philosophy
Yup, not sure how it is lately but there for a while most NFL players would go broke in a few years too. Probably will be the same with these NIL deals.
I’m still gonna watch but I found that this year I am having a greater interest in the FCS and Division II playoffs.
I see two portal adds from UCF and four 4 stars. 3 of which are RB/WR which are a little more plentiful than OL and DTs.
I’m really only jealous of their 4 star OG but OT would be more impressive.
Rancid? This describes college athletics as a whole for years. Donors have donated money to a school, in exchange for special access, upgraded tickets, free polos, ect., so the school can have newer, better facilities, better coaches, and get in to better conferences, all to placate 18 year old kids. Did we really “need” a football operations building or did we want one to stay competitive with recruiting because everybody else had one. The only difference now is the money is going directly to the kids. If there was not already so much money in college athletics I would say the facilities arms race is a thing of the past, replaced by NIL collectives arms race, but there is SO much money in TV contracts and already in the athletic departments.
What do you think will be more effective a new football operations center that costs $130m or 5% $6.5m paid out in NIL annually? If NIL continues unchecked this is a realistic question that will come up in the future.
On a side note, I was raised an Aggie literally wore A&M shirts everyday on intermediate school, I could go to any university I wanted to, but my step-dad made me a deal, he would buy me a new truck, if I got over $50k in scholarships so college would be paid for. I only got $40k at A&M and I got $55k at UH so the new truck made it an easy decision.
Oohhhh nooooo. What are we gonna do?. Our 4-8 team who couldn’t block or get to the QB is losing some of those guys. Maybe we’ll get unlucky and replace them with guys who can’t block or rush the passer.
- Hire Milwee
- Enroll Murphy
There should be a transfer rule with:
Players should be barred from posting a picture from its previous team.
The problem is we’re losing the few guys who actually could do those things.
The NIL just may end up being the biggest transfer of generational wealth and ironically, people are directing wealth AWAY from their OWN family and into the pockets of 18-22 year old STRANGERS.
The marketing bucket via corporations/businesses is sustainable but the individual donation part is NOT SUSTAINABLE.
People are going to wise up eventually…there is NO ROI just giving your money away to teenagers.
Don’t worry, it will all lard to contractual obligations.
You will see a ton of these guys going bust.
Many will be unhappy never seeing the field. But they got their money.
The contracts will eliminate the transfers.
NIL people getting burned will be less likely to give out to many big contracts in one class.
Contracts will tighten up all this mayhem.
UH is either going be a power house or farm team for the SEC and Big 10. Right now we are a farm team. They are taking our best players.
Murphy has loads of potential but I do not see a fit for UH. He reminds me of Donovan Smith, without the experience. We won’t see Murphy come to UH to backup Smith. Look at schools who lost their starters is my guess.
That has always been true. Players should use the opportunity to get a degree but many haven’t through the years.
Smith would be a back up in the SEC and Big 10
I would follow you on this but think about influencers? How much income are they generating? It is advertising 101.
Think about taylor swift. IMO she does not come close as a singer to Christina Aguilera or Whitney Houston, not even close. She has a great marketing team and is now a $Billionaire.
What system is that pearland…everyone?
I will all give you a hint.
It starts with an A
sec and big10 are aiming to be AAA Football
The BIG12 and acc are virtually AA Football
All of the g5 are single A.
This is the 2023 cfp college football version for you.
