2025-2026 Houston Cougars Basketball Season

Coogs should be the easy favorite to win it all. Best roster in the country and maybe deepest Houston team

No such thing as easy

Probably be ranked first or second but after a couple of losses that No 1 will rotate with several teams.
The only thing that really matters is how we finish.
Sampson will have this bunch ready for the tourney

To me it’s culture + coaching + continuity + relentless effort + returning stars + elite freshman + good transfers…… not many of the #1 contenders have all of those things at once.

Houston is #1 and I’m not sure it should be close.

Maybe the added depth helps pick up the pace offensively and makes the Coogs even more dangerous

as long as sampson is the coach and we are running the monster we will likley always be top 20…

the unqiue variations within each team is what shifts us anywhere froom 20 to 1…

i love the variations of this team

there are some cons- lack of experience, no low post scorer

but i absolutely love the pros-

  • this will be sampsons tallest team (*im counting tugler as tall with his 7’6 wingspan, nations leader in block rate)… replace 6’1 with 6’6 on the starting line… 6’11 at the 4… every bench guard 6’4, 6’6, 6’3 (with a long wing span/crazy athlete/5star), 6’5 … the final 4 grimes team had similar sized guards, but not bigs
  • milos is extremely low turnovers
  • weve been a bad guard rebounding team the last 3 seasons (just from being short)…long are the days of hinton, armoni and grimes… but we can get that back with this roster

we are almost guaranted, great defense, great rebounding and low turnover… without accounting for offense that alone guarantees the team will be good… becuase even if the offense is bad, we will just get the offensive boards… and i dont expect the offense to be bad

What’s the realistic hope for Milos this year? That he returns to his late-season form from last year, or are we thinking he could take another step up?

another step… every transfer under Houston has a big year 2

Uzan heard directly from scouts and teams what he needs to work on this year to improve his draft stock for next year. Assuming Uzan improves on what he needs to improve on, this NBA audition probably made Uzan over a million dollars more in next year’s draft.

I don’t remember hearing questions from Terrance Harris previously. He took a couple on the chin today.

With all due respect to Pop Isaacs, that departure is addition by subtraction. Now the young guards can play meaningful minutes and raise this team’s ceiling.

Isaacs never felt like he felt into the Coog philosophy

Downgrade for lossing Pop

Umm…at the risk of being incinerated am I the only one here that remembers last year’s the preseason #1 was Kansas? Did that jinx Kansas? Just asking. Excuse me while I run and put on my flame suit.

we’re not Kansas.

Kansas preseason #1 is like st johns currently being debated #1. the entire hype is based on roster collection of the best talents from other teams…

we are being debated as #1 from returning starters, a coaches system… and a boost of fron the recruits… but as a suppliment… no one expects our freshmen to be the “star players”…

As long as we have the #1 seed for our region and win the national championship, then nothing else matters.

Preseason basketball rankings don’t mean much to me.

You know what’s wild? It’s probably easier to make the final four than win the big 12 for everyone not named Houston because of how good Houston is.

lol  lets get a couple games in before id make that bold a claim…

i do think theirs a on-paper gap… but a lof of team with unknown x-factors that could close that gap

I do think the know-it-alls in the national media over-value recruiting stars, offense, and program history and under-value culture and coaching. Otherwise, how do you explain UH’s victories over Kansas, Arizona and Duke?
