I think Jojo will have a fantastic season. Excited to see his improvement offensively and yes the silly fouls will be drastically reduced.

Our Top 8 is no surprise.
National Champs!
Pretty much what I would expected. I assume McFarland is not actually playing.
We’re number 1 on kenpom, Evanmiya, haslametrics, torvik and should be preseason number 1 tomorrow on the ap poll.

I’m thinking it might be Purdue as AP Pre-Season No. 1.
Even after the spanking we gave them last season lol
Purdue has skill and talent but they lack some athleticism. And that matters when you’re trying to separate teams that are so close bunch up on top.
Not sure what Purdue is bringing of their bench but the projected starting 5 I saw the other day is legit. You combine that with the fact that they would be hosting the F4 effectively and I can certainly understand the hype they have.
you’re talking like we never had any pressure to dominate before this year ![]()
No but pre season number 1 is a total jinx
Didn’t UH win by two?
I get it, but it’d be a milestone for the program. They’ve never been preseason number 1 in its history
we’re gonna have to deal with the general inconsistencies/growing pains of having much younger team than usual but idk if its a jinx when in hindsight the pollsters should’ve known better last year and especially the year they put north carolina at 1
I’m honestly not as worried about that. I think that’s such a big reason why Milos coming back was a big deal. Milos is ball dominant and our new young players aren’t. Harwell is a catch and shoot player. He doesn’t do much off the dribble. cenac is a catch and shoot player who will rarely go off the dribble. The way this team is set up, I don’t think there will be as many mistakes as you would think with so many freshmen just because of how ball dominant Milos would be. I think there will be stretches where Kingston will have to be ball dominant and there will be mistakes then. But I think the benefit of him being the backup and not the starter is that when things are going bad, we’ll just flip him out for Milos.
I noticed that again, Mercy was in a white jersey. Do we think that means he still hadn’t really gotten up to speed? Would be a bummer.
I know the freshman we brought in were a different level of talent but I was hoping he would take the next step n
No, Sampson has been rotating the reds and grays for the players that are competing, which include Mercy, Kingston, Kordell McCarthy, Harwell and Ramon. He wasn’t in red this practice, but he was in red in the practice prior.
here is a clip from last week with ramon and mercy in the Red…kingston and mccarty in gray

and a pic from a few days ago with kord in gray
i think sampson is treating it liek a true competition… the only constants are the big 3 (milos, sharp and jojo in red)… occasional cenac is in the gray for mccarthy
I was wondering about him as well. Over the summer when coach mentioned some kid’s dads putting them with all the specialists instead of just letting them play, I thought he might be talking about Mercy.
Arkansas (who we play) just had their red and white scrimmage a couple hours ago, and I already have a videos of it on YouTube.
I’m going to mark them down as a maybe barely top 25 team (they are seen as top 12 right now- so just a slight disappointment, but still good). They’ll make the tournament but nothing to crazy, and as far as a matchup with us, they are a horrendous matchup with us. We might just kill them (assuming limited foul trouble).
It’s Drivers Galore. DJ Wagner actually looks really, really good as a driver. He blew by so many people. I think he’s gotten quicker and more confident as a ball-nominant player. Carter Knox had a bunch of crazy dunks. Darius Acuff was crating for people off the dribble. The issue and why they’re a terrible matchup for us is mainly because I don’t think there’s enough shooting. Similarly to why I don’t think there would be a top 10 team. It was essentially Brick City from three. none of them are really that comfortable shooting off the dribble either. Their good shooting nights would be based on Maleek Thomas, who I don’t think will have that great of a percentage season-wide.
It was just a scrimmage, so I won’t be too harsh on the defense, but it wasn’t good. I’ll give them that excuse. What I won’t excuse is the rebounding effort. In both scrimmages, which were tight and competitive, no one fought for rebounds. Rebounding is instinctual and reflects competitiveness. If you’re playing competitive basketball, even in pickup games, you should be battling for boards if thats in you. If they’re not doing that three weeks before the season, I doubt they’ll suddenly start once games count.
Did we just scrimmage Tx Tech?
