He hasn’t played 3 years though. 2 years and 10 games. Im still holding out hope he can turn into a Senior version of Chris Harris, Gorham or Carlton, all of which didn’t really blossom until their 4th year.

That would be nice, and I know coach thinks highly of him or he wouldn’t be starting…
I still don’t see an issue with Francis. He has certainly improved each season since arriving very young. In time maybe we do recruit over him but he is playing his role and on pace with his development. He has had his moments that have annoyed me but that is just part of the process.
I see a better version of Chaney and Gresham by his SR season. I don’t see that he is hurting the team and when he is not defending and rebounding the way we want we still have Roberts and Tugler and plenty of minutes for TA.
Queen is obviously considering us. Took a visit here. I would think the coaches brought up Hakeem (and Big E) to him and other frontcourt recruits. That he’s helped guys like Giannis and Kobe and numerous other NBA greats that they certainly know about. Not saying it’s one of the main attractions to come to UH but all these kids want to go to the NBA and why wouldn’t you want the opportunity to be tutored by one of THE greatest big men ever!!

I agree with what you are saying but it doesn’t resonate with the current generation as you would think. You would be surprised how many of them don’t even know who those guys are which is sad.

Elvin Hayes is a legend at UH, but honestly, 99% of high school and transfer portal athletes have never heard of him. To think that someone would sign with UH “to be coached by the Big E” is a stretch. Olajuwon’s last year in the NBA was 2002, before most high schoolers were born.
Athletes are attracted to UH because of CKS and his staff, winning, NIL and facilities, in that order, IMO. CKS’ tough approach screens a lot of kids out, but the strong will survive.
Hakeem is doing a fantastic job at coaching Sengun! Have you seen all of the moves he is doing right now? They are identical to Hakeem’s and he uses them to shake his opponents off their pants!

Most of these kids have a dream of playing in the NBA. I didn’t say the main reason to come to UH would be the opportunity to work with Hakeem. Of course being coached by Sampson and his staff, winning, NIL and facilities are what attracts the kid.
So these kids may not know who Dream is. Well when they come on their visit they’ll certainly find out who he is and what he accomplished and that he’s one of the greatest to ever play the game. I would like to think Sampson and his staff let these kids know that players like Giannis and Kobe and countless other NBA greats knew how great Hakeem was and that he was willing to work with them with the purpose of teaching them moves that would take their game to another level.
So they don’t know who he is? Ok go google or go to youtube and see how great he was for yourself.
Do they know who Michael Fn Jordan is? I would hope so unless they’ve been living under a rock. Go google or go to youtube and see what he has to say about Dream and that he would take him as the greatest center he ever played against.
So yes these kids have a list of things they want when looking at the school they’ll choose but how many of them can also throw in having the opportunity to be tutored by arguably the greatest center of all-time. That’s invaluable and if Queen waa smart he’d certainly take this into consideration when deciding where to go. I’ve seen numerous photos of recruits with Hakeem on thrir visit to UH.
You know who else knows who Hakeem is? Their fathers, the kids uncle’s, the kids coach, his AAU coach so don’t tell me these kids don’t know who Hakeem is. It may start that the kid has an interest in UH now that they’re winning, on tv, top 10 team, success in the tournament etc, but the minute they express that interest about looking at UH there’s plenty of people that can bring to their attention that Hakeem, and Drexler and Big E (and others went there) then they can go youtube them and see how great they were and then learn that Hakeem loves his alma mater and is more than happy to help these kids work on their game if they were to come here.
A kid like Queen either gets that or he doesn’t. Again it’s not THE deciding factor but it should be a part of it because it plays into helping them possibly reach their dream if playing in the NBA.

This has no impact on any recruiting decisions for any kids at this point. Hakeem providing some pointers is great but that doesn’t make a break a prospect from making the NBA. It actually makes the alumi base and this board feel better about things than actual recruit born 2005 and after.

For what it is worth, I ran into my friend (HEB) that has some insight into the basketball prog. He said that we are in a better position with Queen than before, but not in the drivers seat. He said that the better we do in the polls and the better our record , the better our chances would be (Surprise.) I said yes, (of course) but he knew nothing further. Take away–doesn’t sound good. Doesn’t sound like he is aware of anything positive.
Our record and ranking currently is not making or breaking if the kid comes or not.
It’s more about what we have done the last several years which is good.
If it was just about how good the program is we win hands down….Indiana and Maryland? lol
If your friend really told you that we needed to continue to be high in the polls and record leading up to his announcement I think your friend is pulling your leg.

Anything that does not come directly from the recruit is mere speculation. OTOH, I think speculation is what message boards are made for.
He’s a good defensive center on the best defense in college basketball. You guys sell his game short.
