Tbc RS would be entirely KH decision. Kid obviously will have a chance to compete for a starting spot. But if Connor comes back and wins that competition KH will have the opportunity to be a back up QB and RS. He can definitely do both things.
Hate to brag, but I was right.
The question is not if KH wants to RS
The question is if Weigman is willing to take the risk of competing in his final year of eligibility
Next Fall Connor is 23 and Keasann is 18.
No contest. Henderson can redshirt, start for 2 seasons, then go Pro if he turns out to be the real deal.
Can Henderson catch?
Line him up at WR like Greg Ward and King so he can understand the offense better.
He can do that at Alabama or LSU.
Cut the realistic stuff – ceiling 15 wins, floor 12.
Well that’s certainly the more important question. But that’s going to come down to his draft stock. I don’t see him transferring.
I think CWF was up front with Keisean about Conner staying and possibility of either redshirting or being the backup and Keisean is OK with that. It will help him adjust to the rigors of college life and playing football.
Being backup and not redshirting is always a possibility and he could get PT in a lot of games. I don’t know what he would actually gain redshirting, since the odds are he would go pro after his junior year – assuming his college game mirrors his HS results.
A player has the same opportunity to go to the NFL, whether he is a redshirt sophomore or a Junior.
So… if he ends up QB2 in the Fall, and doesn’t need to step in and play in more than 4 games, why WOULDN’T he redshirt to keep every option open? The odds of him being productive enough, and staying healthy… enough to go to the NFL in the Spring of 2029, are still “odds”. Somewhere less than 100%.
Let’s flip it around…
There’s also a chance he plays, however much over the next 3+ years (on the roster), but is injured for an undetermined amount of time. Football is a CONTACT sport. Maybe he becomes “draft eligible”, but doesn’t have a full year headed into the draft necessary to maximize his draft stock. Maybe his stats suffer because he gutted it out and played through injuries. Maybe he would be at a point where he WANTS another full year to raise his draft stock.
We just don’t know. So if redshirting can’t hurt him, and there’s no reason to pull his redshirt, why burn it for no reason?
Finally. Let’s shift gears one more time…
Some folks on here think he won’t be on campus next fall. I believe they are suffering from battered Coog syndrome and actually believe Houston isn’t good enough for a player like Keisean. Shame on them…
Others think he’ll be here and he’s a lock to be QB1 on day 1 next Fall. If he’s good enough to beat out CW, and that’s what Willie decides, I’ll be happy for him, for the team, and for all of us; because if that’s the case, he will be a MONSTER. But thinking that’s a guarantee is foolish, IMO…
The “most likely” scenario, I’ll say again, is he shows flashes of unlimited potential next spring, going in to fall camp, and works his way up to be QB2, surpassing guys who are a year, or more, ahead of him. That would be a very good sign for the future of Coog Football.
Another possible scenario, though not very likely, IMO, is that he steps on campus and finds the college game is a little more than expected, and truly needs a year or 2 to be ready to start as a Big12 QB.
He could also be a bust? Highly doubtful. He’s just too gifted…
Do I have to explain this again? I was referring to his junior year of college, not his 3rd year of eligibility. That’s why I said, “I don’t know what he would actually gain redshirting, since the odds are he would go pro after his junior year…”
No. You don’t have to explain yourself. I understood it, long before you even brought it up. We’ve been talking about KH for months now and no one is really discussing anything new.
Why don’t you read my entire response, where you asked a question, and I answered, in detail, rather than flaming on one portion of my reply, taking it out of context, and shifting the entire conversation to something almost incomprehensible.
Stay focused, or stop asking questions just to bait people into supporting some subliminal narrative.
Read this… vvv
There’s no advantage to burning a redshirt, unless QB1 gets hurt and you HAVE TO play more than 4 games.
…or, he “becomes” QB1, on day 1.
It’s better to be a Redshirt Sophomore in your academic junior year, than to be a Junior in your academic junior year, for the sake of a potential NFL Career.
Unless there’s a reason to burn your Redshirt, never do it…
I can’t make it any clearer than that !!!
You asked. I answered.
Don’t make this personal.
Fair enough, I just answered the same question earlier and I didn’t read the rest. Nothing flaming and nothing personal. I just happen to come off blunt, or so says my bride.
Thanks. It’s all good.
My guess is Weigman will get a big pay raise to go to a BIG/SEC team and our 5 star QB will start for us as a true freshman.
Just remember, our 5 star QB started for us this year.
Your entitled to “guess”, but there’s NOTHING to indicate that’s gonna happen except for speculation on this message board, and people’s desires to see the shiny new toy next Fall…
You’re just full of _____ ideas…
Regarding the “pay raise”…
Do you know what he makes now?
Do you know his projected NIL Value?
Just curious, because knowing this could lend a little credibility to your argument (opinion)…
Which SEC team is interested in paying him more? …and will it be enough for him to move further away from home, when he left an SEC team, just last year, to be closer to home?
I know nothing. It’s just a complete guess based on precedent that some of these schools with $ to burn have come sniffing here and other places for ready made players. Of course I could look like a complete idiot and nothing happen. Very possible too. Just saying if I was placing a bet that’s how I’d bet it plays out.
