Thanks. Now that BB is over, time to focus more on T&F.
Big 12 Outdoor Championship starting today.

Carl Lewis is candid about the expectations for the University of Houston menâs track and field program.
âWe have the expectation to be a team that can win the conference, but our No. 1 goal is to always win a national championship, be there near the top, because we can do that,â said Lewis, UHâs head coach and nine-time Olympic gold medalist. âTrack is the unique sport that you could be 10th in your conference meet and win nationals.â
Still trying to figure out is Michaela Mouton coming off an injury or being reckless off the track? She is running the 400mâs 5 seconds slower than last year.
Havenât seen anything, but I would guess injury. I canât imagine CL putting up with much nonsense off the track. Particularly with some of his recent comments on what it will take to keep a scholarship.
Thanks. I be looking at some of the athletes times vs their highschool times. Surprisingly it can appear a lot are looking for free education. But Iâm going to look for that article with Coach on scholarship requirements.
Paraphrasing, he essentially said if you canât score points after two years in the B12, you need to be prepared to find a conference where you can.
Also, he noted where a team can finish 10th in the conference tournament and still win the national championship. Made it sound like the latter was more realistic than winning the conference in our case based on dollars and recruiting goals.
The women side may need another year to compete in conference while the men are a year away from National Championships status. Both teams are fairly young. Carl is also expanding the field competition and long distance. Both were major weaknesses on either squad.
Michaela Mouton just ran a 55.95 in the 400m. Last year best was 50.96. She was supposed to be the face of Cougars women track. Iâm baffled.
I thought I noticed that. Definitely getting better athletes in long distance. Felt like that kept us from winning some NCs over the past 10 or so years. Such a shame with how strong we were at sprints.
Yeah Coach Carl didnât waste no time adding both to the teams. Almost an overhaul of such athletes. Seem as if he figured you canât win a National Championship without a complete squad. Although Iâm not sure whatâs taking womenâs sprints so long to catch up.
Lost to TT again we canât beat them in anything besides basketball and we split with them, sad sad
Youâre sad
Itâs a fun meet to watch, makes espn+ worth it. A very good showing so far
Finishing 2nd would be outstanding in what has been a rebuilding year. We really need a strong showing in the 200, like a repeat of the 110H
Tech will win, but coming down to the 400x4 for second place between our Coogs and their Coogs. We are down 3.66 points. Going by the seasons PB, we could pull it off.
Weather delay.
Were doing really well until distance events⊠that killed our chances
3rd in both race and meet. BYU takes second, they ran a good race.
A nice meet overall.
Poor showing in that 4x400. Looked like 3rd leg went too hard out of the gate when he didnât need to and fell from 2nd to 5th before the final baton pass. I think BYU wouldâve still beat us.
The 3rd leg was an actual replacement. Mason wasnât even top 5 on the team in 400m. Could have ran Jaylin Santiago. But the fastest 400m runner Trey East lll didnât run the 4x4 relay. The most disappointing athlete on Houston campus has to be Michaela Mouton. Last year she ran 50.96 in the 400meters, this last meet 55.95. I do not believe she is hurt. Track runners get hurt but gradual improvements happen throughout the season. Running 5 seconds slower than your max is very difficult to do. Both squads are young so next year will be better. But it should be an explanation for Michaela. Thatâs equivalent to JoJo Tugler going from Defensive Player of the Year to he canât guard anybody.
Thank you for the insight sir. Very much appreciated.
