2025 UHCougarBB

No doubt he and his assistants have gotten lazy at recruiting thus we need new life in several of our programs.
Willie Fritz has shown what a new attitude can bring to recruiting.

That is my bad. I know he left for a while to go work with the Mariners. I didn’t realize he was back with the program. They moved him to a special assistant, though. I wonder how much coaching the let him do. He was a horrible pitching coach when he was at OU.

I think it has to do with not getting some elite pitchers. They like to get a lot of transfers and not a lot of JC players. They were good at their previous schools but they are not producing for Tech. Tech actually has a lot of NIL money for baseball. They might have more than anyone. Should be getting a lot of better players with that budget.

They recruit Kendall Hoffman out of FL. Reliever against MN and Cal Berkly. was schedule to start at UT and Started against Sam Houston and Rice. 10 IP 2R 1 ER 3BB 12K with ERA 0.90. 4 pitch mix 92-93 MPH. Might not be the big name schools but sure show some promise. 4

I am not sure I understand what you are saying in your first couple of sentences.

Previous post said they never recruit any new top talent

And this is why the seat will get hot for the best baseball coach they’ve ever had.

I didn’t mean that they recruit JUCO - I meant that their approach was like some of them that invite twice as many players as they need and cut a bunch after fall ball (or sooner).

But if players were producing at previous D1 stops and not getting it done at Tech, you have to look at the coaching staff.

I was referring to 158’s post. I am not sure how highly rated Hoffman was out of FL.

I completely agree with you. They are definitely operating like a JC in that regard. it is garbage!

And if the recruits they are bringing in are not producing then they should be held accountable, especially considering how much NIL money they have.

Who were the teams? Did he get drafted?

According to Perfect Game, he was not highly rated. That doesn’t mean he wasn’t an elite player that was highly regarded by Power 5 schools,

Agreed, Lets see what he can do. There are other pitchers that looked pretty good in the last several games as well. Hope to see UH turn it around.

Those are some highly regarded programs. I don’t know why he would turn down Ole Miss and SC to go to UH right now :grinning:

Liked the school and liked the coaches.

No, I asked when is the last time the Coogs signed a top notch high school pitcher out of high school. Brad Lincoln and quite a few others throughout the years were highly touted.

Hoffman looks good so far. I hope he can keep it up
we need it.

Define top notch. Diego Luzardo had an outstanding career at La Porte; two time District Pitcher of Year, 25th ranked RHP in Texas in his class (2023).

Heck, Ryan Dollar was the #7 RHP in the 2022 class, according to Perfect Game. Hasn’t worked out very well.

So maybe it’s the coaching? Gotcha
