Rice message board wants their coach fired.

Their legendary ex-player coach.

I would rather they keep Cruz jr.

Tech to open Big 12 play next weekend so I guess we will see how bad or possibly good this team really is.

What the hell happened to Tech? Same coach correct? Did he lose some assistants that could recruit? I know Kash transferred to ATM but 3-13 is ridiculous.

First, UTRGV’s RPI is going to plummet as they play more conference games. The same thing happened to Lamar last year. They are going to have to win their tourney to get in. There is no way they take 2 out of the Southland.

Second, Rice may be one of the worst teams in D1. Houston Christian is not a bad team. They will take 2 games from Rice.

They have the same assistants that Tadlock has had for years. They don’t have any pitching. Their team ERA is very high and they can’t get anyone out. They were beating Grand Canyon, who is a pretty good program, by 5 in the second game out there over the weekend, but their bullpen gave up 9 in the eighth to lose the game. They are on the cusp of giving up so it will be interesting to see how their guys approach the series.

This may be part of the problem. They did lose a key assistant a few years ago, and the pitching has steadily declined since then, kind of like ours did after Anderson left.

Just curious when is the last time Whitting recruited a star high school pitcher like say a Brad Lincoln?
Our program is just not a go to program anymore although our facilities have improved and we are in a big time conference.
This is not going to be popular, but did the riots and pandemic hurt many of our programs?
It just seems like we don’t recruit the suburbs very well anymore.
We need energetic coaches willing to go out and sell our great U to the local high schools and their parents.
What we have now is not working although coach Sampson has proved it can

Boy, I just looked at their team stats and you weren’t joking about not being able to get anyone out. They have three sophomores on the roster that were solid last year that are getting shelled. Two of them are starters.

They fired their pitching coach a few years ago but he was not very good. Their main recruiter is J. Bob Thomas, who has been around for years. He completely over recruits players and they always have too many guys come in during the start of school. Ray Hayward, the ex Oklahoma great, was their recruiting coordinator when Tadlock first arrived at Tech. They had a lot of success in that time frame but they asked him to leave a couple of years later. They have gotten a bad wrap for cutting players when school first starts as well as when the players come back for the spring. That is not right and they have rightfully gotten a bad wrap around college baseball.

You answered your own question when you said that UH needs to bring in hungry coaches. Well, that starts with the guy on top and he is anything but that. He rarely goes out and recruits on his own. He may go out and see the player after they commit, but even that is only if they happen to play in Houston. This is the main reason why they need to bring in someone else!

They have played a good schedule but their team ERA is above 7.

He wasn’t great, but they’ve really regressed since he left - maybe that’s more because the JUCO approach to recruiting is working against them.

Tech people are getting pretty restless about how things have trended over several years - if Tadlock’s seat isn’t hot, it’s getting there.

It they end up having a bad year this year, that would mean they miss the tournament for 2 years in a row. The heat Tadlock would be facing in '26 would be very hot. He is a product of the environment he created. Their fans have unrealistic expectations because of the success Tadlock had when he first got to Tech. I don’t think they would do anything unless they have 3 bad years in a row.

I meant to point that out. Really solid schedule they’ve played.

There have been a ton of burned bridges over the years Butch….that stuff eventually catches up to you.

And you don’t even need to got “to the burbs” anymore.

Many big time showcase teams play right there on the UH field in great tournaments.
