2025 UHCougarBB

UH vs Rice tonight. Round 2.

Based on what I saw out of Rice the first time around, it should be a fairly one-sided win.

The team seems to be having fun, enjoying the home runs and wins and playing together. Maybe the basketball winning is contagious.

Big picture aside.

As of April, 8th, 25.
UH B12 rankings:
14th in hitting/ 10th pitching/ 13th Fielding.

Unlike recent seasons.
Made their own luck at times on bases.
The bottom of order has had big moments.

Rice mostly close lately vs best of AAC.
Won as game v FAU.
Did get blown out by UTRGV.

3 guys pitched twice last weekend ?
Time to see what they have.
Need to get more options in close games.

I see them at least .500 headed into a salty May.

Baseball is such a funny game. You can’t expect to dominate inferior teams on a game by game basis. You have to look at it over a series of games or even the season. Any team can rise up and beat the better team on a one-game basis, but the better teams win the series and the seasons.

Luzardo w
13.50 era in 6 innings.

Antoine Jean B12 Top 5 in bunch categories now.

I don’t know what the make up of the team is but there is plenty of talent in Louisiana to go around….Louisiana has a lot of prep talent….its not Texas, Florida or California good but it’s a lot.

You can put together a good team of just Louisiana and Texas ā€œleftoversā€.

Lott loads them. Almost gets out of it.
McNeese 1-3.

McNeese using its good pitching w this lead.

What were we doing trying to score on a shallow fly ball with 0 outs?

Dumb.

Broussard is supposed to be speedy. Last night was the first time he was caught stealing all year. That would be my only guess.

That or Whitting was busy filling his Powerade cup.

I mean, I get that he’s fast, but the RF had a bead on that and caught it barely 15 yards out of the infield on a dead run. The throw beat him by several steps.

Maybe the kid went on his own, but I kind of doubt it.

Jean is in the game. No, he doesn’t overuse his pitchers!!

10th inning

I have 2 tickets and a parking pass for Friday and Saturday games vs WVU if anyone wants them.

That was something - kid walked, then advanced to 2nd and 3rd on a WP, then scored on a WP.

And that’s a 4-3 loss.

Pitched another inning today….

Tired arms get wild….TW got what he deserved tonight.

I’ll wait for someone to tell me it was cool to go with Jean again tonight.

Add two free beers and you might be able to give them away.

Six innings and 113 pitches over SIX DAYS is not overuse.

For example, Jean’s use has been well within The Futures League Pitching Guidelines.

If there are any other documented pitch use guidelines for college/pro baseball that would show Jean has been overused, please share. I haven’t found any.

But there’s good news for you guys! Antoine Jean not being overused will not save TW’s job.

Your crazy man….it is over use. Lol

You don’t count the pitchers like he is a starter….he is a relief pitcher!!!

You don’t understand what it’s like to get heated up to come in and pitch….there are no written guidelines, this isn’t little league….college and pro ball there are no official limits because coaches are supposed to be smart enough to not over use.

As Lurker what his arm would feel like on that 3rd appearance….he was a pitcher, he knows.

To do it three times from Friday through Wednesday for 3 , 2 and 1 inning is overuse.

If a guy starts a game and throws 113 in one outing, it’s not optimal but it’s still easier on the arm than three appearances over 6 days for that amount.

Major league coaches are now pulling guys at 90-100 pitches….every now and then a guy may get into the 110’s but very rare.

In the minors starting pitchers rarely get to 100 pitches and most minor league staffs either have a 6 man rotation or a piggy back system ( which is even less pitches). They are trying to protect arms….and Jean will get drafted….but mlb teams will look at his usage in college.

And these guys are in college….go look in the minors and show me a guy that throws that many pitches in relief in that short of time….you won’t!

You might see an MLB pitcher that has three appearances in 6 days, but they are likely one inning a piece, maybe 2 innings on one….but 113 pitches in that time is crazy….

Pitching coaches that know what they are doing understand about heating a kid up……all of those pitches in the bull getting warmed up count as well….getting loose in between innings count as well……they factor all of those in.

I guarantee Woody did not make that decision.

And as far as your last comment….no matter how much I dislike a coach, it doesn’t mean I feel that way about the players….i don’t want any kid getting injured….period.

I have a 5ā€ scar on top of my right shoulder from a jerk off coach abusing my arm….im passionate about this topic.

You don’t have to believe a word I said….no problem.
