What’s telling about yesterday’s game is how the two coaches used their pitching staffs for a midweek game. This is especially a concern when you consider that we had a game Tuesday and will start another series on Friday.
McNeese did what you would expect from a squad that has its eyes on the prize - they used 1 pitcher per inning, even if they had a quick one.
UH treated it like the opening game of a weekend conference series.
Are we so deep with pitching that we have starters sitting around getting no action other than two mid-week games? Of course not. We pulled out the stops to try for a win against McNeese St., and failed at that anyway.
Two midweek games….one of them should have employed the system that McNeese used.
Throwing 8-9 guys an inning apiece let’s a lot of your guys to get work….it also doesn’t allow the other team to get a good look at any one pitcher….especially when you are using some of your lower rung pitchers.
And the “pitching guidelines “ that @HolmesUkraine posted from the futures league is not something most coaches even look at….the guidelines are the threshold, coaches don’t get anywhere close to the number of pitches on that chart….they protect pitchers way more than what that thing says.
BTW, @HolmesUkraine—-in the chart you posted, TW did break the guidelines….Jean pitched 62 pitches on Sunday….would not have been eligible to pitch until Thursday……
This is why I said “you don’t have to believe me”.
Because I knew you would spit out non-sense.
“Are we talking about high school or college baseball?
YOU brought up the “FUTURE’s GUIDELINES “ not me, so despite it being “college baseball” where there are NO guidelines you brought up a DIFFERENT league….so when I mentioned HS guidelines how is what I said different from what you said? It’s not!!!
“Because the word calendar days is not in there”
This shows your lack of knowledge, of course it’s not in there because every baseball coach KNOWS that it is calendar days!!! NOBODY counts hours!!!
So I ask you, did YOU read them?! Obviously not,
So that’s twice that you are wrong……shall we keep going? Because I can prove you wrong all day.
Let’s keep going….
“No Jean wasn’t overused”….
He clearly was and you either don’t want to admit it or you are being stubborn because you don’t like me and want me to be wrong more than you being right.
“Sorry baseball genius”
Never claimed to be a genius but I’ve been in baseball as a player and coach for 40+ years….but in addition to baseball sense I also have common sense.
“And yes I think it’s Woody’s call”
Woody was a college and MLB pitcher….he has personally seen coaches ruin arms and future careers……there is NO WAY sending Jean in against McNeese was his call.
Everything you said in that last post was incorrect….just utter nonsense.
I know you are gonna feel the need to respond….thats cool, you do you….i wont respond.
You would rather be wrong than to admit i am right….i actually hope thats the case….because if you legitimately think you are correct thats crazy.
There is no way in hell Woody is making those decisions. The staff is being managed by TW. He is doing the same thing he has been doing in the last 5 years. And now, he is beyond desperate to win so he is going to do whatever he thinks is necessary. If that means overusing your best pitcher, so be it.
Not going to waste much time on this, but the Futures League is a COLLEGE LEAGUE. And I presented the guidelines as one example where usage rules were set for college pitchers. Not for high school kids, for college adults.
Baseball about to be swept by a northern school at home. Softball was swept up in Lubbock this weekend too. Neither team scored today although baseball still has a chance to get a run . Fun times.
Nunez better clean both of those houses up ASAP. No one currently involved in this incredible complacency and lack of urgency should have a job 10 minutes after the final pitch of the regular season is thrown.
