Rice appears to be MANY LEVELS of suck worse than UH.
Theyāre much worse than they look in the box score. Rice isnāt a legitimate D1 program right now.
Theyāre nearing UH 2021 levels. The difference is, their AD recognized there is a problem and has taken the necessary step to address the problem.

Did UH football suck as much as Rice football did?
Definitely not.
There are, as I said, degrees/levels of suck.
So we donāt suck as much as Rice. Big Deal.

After sitting through years of getting clobbered by Rice in baseball, Iāll always celebrate baseball wins against Rice.

I am happy we won but I know we arenāt a good team and we are curb stomping Rice whenever we play them its pretty sad.
Iām not so sure about that. College Baseball isnāt much more popular, if at all, than College Softball.

Iāve seen a top-10 UH team, and Iāve seen a packed house for the Silver Glove Series.

The average attendance of the 2024 MCWS was 24,788 fans per game.
The 2024 WCWS averaged 12,200 per session.
The baseball category on Coogfans has more activity than all of womenās sports combined.

The 2024 WCWS also did higher TV ratings than the MCWS, and both of them are around the 1 Million/game mark.
UH baseball has been good a lot more recently than WBB or softball has, which explains a lot of that.
Thatās one team that was an anomalyā¦ā¦overall , attendance and tv ratings are better for baseball than softball.

You also have to consider NCAA baseball has to compete with MLB & MiLB. NCAA softball doesnāt really have any direct competion.

Baseball is a bigger national draw than softball and it isnāt close. OU isnāt a proxy for the whole country.
The next person who asks me if Iāve been to wherever softball has its championship will be the first. Softball people care, but thatās it. The CWS draws in casual fans because people love baseball and the drama.

I really think folks in this thread are overestimating the popularity of college baseball.
No, you alone are overestimating the popularity of college softball in comparison to college baseball.

To be clear, Iām not saying a ton of people care about college softball. Iām saying that nobody cares about college baseball, either. Itās decidedly behind WBB and Menās Hockey in the sports pecking order, and it shouldnāt necessarily be a huge priority for our AD relative to other sports.
