I actually just asked you earlier ![]()
I disagree completely.
WBB? It got a bump because of Clark and PB but no way it sustainsâŠ.and itâs non existent here.
Menâs Hockey? Are you seriously saying the Frozen Four is more popular than the CWS?
Menâs college baseball is WAY MORE popular than either of those or softball.
You just have not been to the right placesâŠ.SEC, ACC and former PAC have HUGE popularity for baseball.
I think you are a really good posterâŠ.just disagree here.
WBB has been trending upward even before Caitlin Clark. She was phenomenal, but that UConn however-many-peat did a lot for the sport, too. Dawn Staley, Geno Auriemma, and Kim Mulkey have all done more for the sport in recent years than Caitlin Clark.
The Frozen Four isnât that popular, but regular-season Hockey absolutely fills arenas in B1G country (and also, weirdly enough, the mountain states).
The 2025 NCAA Division I womenâs basketball championship game attendance was 19,777. Not even a sell-out and almost 6,000 less than the 3-game average for the 2024 baseball championship series.
All of this is wrong. ![]()
And even if some of those sports are more popular in certain regions for whatever reason, UH has a strong history in baseball, and it was well-supported when it was competitive. Unlike some other sports, UH baseball fans donât wait for a top-10 ranking to show up.
As an objective test, there are about 300 D1 baseball programs in the country. Hocky has about 60. You canât really compare womenâs sports programs because many of them exist to satisfy federal regs and certainly donât come anywhere near supporting them.
If youâre in a northern state, then the perspective makes sense because they generally donât care about college baseball. In Houston, itâs very obvious that promoting WCBB at the expense of baseball would be colossally stupid, but thereâs no reason we should be letting any sport just suck.
A good baseball team will draw more local interest than either softball or WCBB, though - always has. Whatever is happening somewhere else doesnât really matter.
The 2025 Womenâs Final Four averaged 4x the viewership per game of the MCWS. The semis beat the MCWS final by over a million viewers.
And that doesnât matter one bit in Houston.
Just look at the amount of interest on this board, where ALL womenâs programs are combined into one forum that has less interest than the baseball forum alone. And this is a group that cares more about UH athletics than the general public.
It takes a lot more dedication, effort and money to get on a plane to see the game live than it does to turn on a TV.
I mean, if you listen to this board, the Coogs are well-supported throughout Houston and the Texans should relocate because nobody cares about them. This board isnât close to representative of really anything; it certainly runs a lot older, wealthier, and more male than the broader city population, and even the broader UH fan population. Given those demographics, Iâm not exactly shocked that the Womenâs sports board isnât heavily-used, since we have a substantial contingent of posters here that have been watching the Coogs twice as long as weâve had a Softball team.
Thatâs a clown take, and you know it. ![]()
If you donât like baseball and think it shouldnât be supported, thatâs fine. Letâs just move on. But donât come in here and start trying to convince people that any womenâs is more popular at UH than baseball. There just arenât any facts that back that up.
From a revenue standpoint, I donât know enough about how money gets distributed to say whether itâs more financially beneficial to be really good at WCBB than baseball, but I suspect baseball is slightly higher (or has been in the past). I know WCBB didnât receive any revenue for playing in the postseason until this year.
Baseball is huge in Houston. WCBB and softball are niche sports by comparison.
In terms of revenue, baseball is decidedly a non-revenue sport, as is anything except Football and MBB.
Your right. Everyone else is wrong.
Feel better ? Sheesh.
This doesnât support your original claim that âCollege Baseball isnât much more popular, if at all, than College Softball.â
Right. Itâs a deflection and an admission. ![]()
Why is that sad?
No sport loses more money than WBB. The only reason they are supported is because of Title IX.
Interesting.
Based on that, college menâs hockey has MORE THAN TWICE the revenue as college baseball.
As for TV ratings.
The 2024 Frozen Four finals drew over 450K viewers.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/615807/ncaa-frozen-four-viewership/
The CWS finalsâŠ.about 2.8 million.
So as for which is âbigger,â it depends on the what your evaluation criteria is, revenues, or TV ratings.
That said, I agree.
Anything other than football and menâs basketball is non-revenue.
Itâs not ânon-revenueâ in the SEC.
College baseball is bigger but we are wasting an opportunity with softball.
And OKC just added upper decks for the womenâs World Series. It feels more like old school Omaha.
The sport is wildly popular in the region. Alumnae from our good years are coaching all over including at prep schools. We could be averaging 2,000 a game with effort and showcasing the facilities and earning good willâŠ
