2025 UHCougarBB

They should go back to putting the last names on the back.

Vs Big12 in 24.
Hoping pitching lab , new coaching, injuries in the past. etc
take a ____% off the B12 ERAs.

UGH!!!

Those ERAs are higher than the balls on a giraffe!!!

I hope that that isn’t a predictor of what’s to come!

A couple of serious questions.

Wasn’t Richie Roman supposed to be one of our better pitchers?

Is he projected as a reliever?

Disagree. Looks more classy w/o the last names. Very clean look!

I don’t know what any of these guys are projected as at this point
.what I can tell you is the “coaching” they got from the pitching side has been absolutely garbage over the past several years.

The pitchers would have been better with no coaches last year

seriously.

Hopefully now that Woody has control of the pitchers you will see improvement
.but still, he can only do what he can with what he has to work with.

TW is obviously going with the Seniors in the first series to see what happens. The one that is most surprising to me is Drezek in the Sunday role. I am not exactly sure who I would have starting on Sunday, but that is a big surprise. He has a huge ERA and he didn’t do well in the fall games. To me, Dollar has the most upside of all three of those pitchers. He has really good stuff but doesn’t always put it together. I wouldn’t be very surprised at all if he does really well on Friday. This is a huge year for him as it is a draft year, and yes, he could get drafted in an early round. Schmitz could end up having a good year but he really struggled last year and he has seemed to go downhill from his FR year. Granted, the games he started his FR year were early in the schedule, before he got hurt, against lesser competition. I am not sure we have really gotten to see who the real Schmitz is quite yet. It is obviously a draft year for him as well, so he needs to put up or shut up.

I don’t really like the rotation. TW is obviously trying to prove a point this weekend by starting the three older guys. I don’t know if that means pitchers like Roman sucked it up since being back for the Spring or what the deal is right now. However, I don’t think it really matters against Minnesota as UH is, from a pitching perspective, is a lot better than the Gophers. As I have said many times before, though, that doesn’t mean a TW team is going to play to their potential. I think UH takes the series 2-1. Should be a very interesting weekend!

I don’t like Schmitz as a starter

runs out of gas quickly
.if he is going to be drafted I think he needs to showcase himself as a late inning reliever

plenty of guys get drafted in mid to late rounds by showing they have the stuff to get guys out in the 8th and 9th inning consistently.

I agree. Guys can definitely make a name for themselves in the later innings. I just don’t think he has the stuff to be a late inning guy. He sits around '94, but his fastball is somewhat flat and he doesn’t have great off speed pitch. I actually like Dollar in the closer role. Maybe these pitchers can take a big leap this year after working with Woody for a year?

What about Roman?

And see I figure his best shot is in a relief role because I see him as a two pitch guy.

A good pitching coach should be able to work with him and maximize his natural ability.
With his size he should be able to get another 4-5 mph on his fastball
.especially if it’s just for an inning or two at a time.

And it’s not that difficult to teach a guy a good , hard slider
.and at 6’8”, a good S&C combined with a good throwing program and Schmitz should be able to blow smoke
.his arm speed should be off the charts.

Of course there are lots of “ifs” in my line of thinking.

I don’t think anybody has a clear idea of what is going on with Roman. He was supposedly the only one who pitched well in the Fall. I think this is probably more about TW trying to prove a point to his pitching staff this weekend. I wouldn’t be surprised if he only pitched his starters 3 and brings in somebody from the pen quickly.

Pollard, I agree with what you are saying. He has the makeup to be a great closer. I just don’t know if he can put all of that together. Maybe Woodie can get it done, though.

They have Minnesota winning 2 of 3 .

Where do you see that ?

Only 5-6 UT over UH the following Tues seem optimistic.
Is Jean hurt ? He seems like the weekday guy after weekend announced.

They like Lamar big at UH Apr 22nd ?

Edit:
Just changed to Minn win on Saturday.
Its updating in real time.

At this point I’ll take 2 out of 3.

Sadly, every preview I’ve seen has us in the bottom quartile of the Big 12.

I hope we defy expectations.
