2026-27 Houston Cougars Basketball Season

Admittedly, it’s probably because UCF didnt defend great as a team often times, and he was their leader (See Below) Not necessarily an indictment of him tho, to your point.

Fwiw, he only had 5 rebounds in this one, too. Not absolutely terrible, but the bar is high because his expectations will be high. The knights were also outrebounded 43-29 and we’re not amazing at it, so you probably want more from him there.

The other component is players who make a lot of inital noise offensively are gonna get tagged with some of that. You might be right, i haven’t looked into his defense that hard. Just vibes, i guess lol.

He sticks his hip out. I’m surprised he doesn’t get called for that.

Unless you’re at practice and know the coach’s system it’s hard for an outsider to determine whether a player is good defensively or not. Most fans just watch how they guard the ball and are basically ignorant of the rest. It’s a team defense built on everybody doing their job. You can be selfish defensively just as you can be selfish offensively.

Jojo won’t be posting up much unless he has a significant size and strength advantage. Not my words. Those are Kelvin’s.

So like, Mouse in the house situations when guards get caught down there in scrambles.

Also, he won’t be posting up because he’s gonna be too busy raining 3s from Kingwood! @Kyle_Be_Coogin @RobDob

The game I rewatched was when he was on Auburn…

Oh, I see what you meant after reading again… that he earned that rep because UCF collectively played bad defense when he was there.

Iowa, I saw the same thing. One of the things that makes him more effective facing is that he above average ball handler. If you want to know how Chief will use him focus on the last 10 games of last year.

Iirc that action was there all year, but Jojo was hesitating when he would have space the first half of the season and by the time he decided to do something the defense had already closed the lane.

If he can start hitting that 10 foot jumper to go along with attacking the rim from the top of the key he’s going to be a force on offense.

I’ll settle for him just attacking the rim like he did late in the season from the top of the ft line or the elbow.

Until the last 10 games or so we were throwing it to JoJo with his back to the basketball, Then we changed it. We could have done it from the start but did not. Point is if people want to know how we will utilize JoJo reference the tail end of the season.

Uhh, I’m seeing on Twitter and Reddit that we are getting UT player Chendal Weaver on a transfer?? If confirmed, what a huge get. That kid plays hard.

I loved the way this guy plays. He seems to have avoided the underachieving illness UT players aquire

He’s definitely a cultural fit. Great pickup !

Interesting addition. If Weaver gets PT it means someone else’s minutes will be cut. Whose will they be? I’ve a sneaking suspicion it’s going to be a Hadnot.

Kelvin has confirmed.

I thought this roster was a step behind the last few years, but this changes that in a significant way.

“Significant” sounds exaggerated… dude lost his spot at UT… averaged 6 points and shot 22% from 3

Stats aren’t everything. He’ll be our second best D player , good rebounder, and in the rotation. Book it
