We had Cryer and Sharp who were not super great athletes, but they made up for it with other skills…IQ and fundamentals. Making the extra pass, spacing, working for a better shot…
Mercy is a better athlete…but with that athleticism comes a different mentality. I can score over anyone and any defense. You cant guard me. An athletic person is just used to going to their athleticism when they are in a bind. They are not dumber. They just go to what has worked for them their whole life.
Taking contested shots, dribbling between 2 defenders, trying to bully your way and out athlete guys in the paint looking for a call…there were times King was playing like an athlete and not strategic too.
I think that is why CKS mentioned DJ will help players like Mercy and Chase. Because i can see both being too hype and out of control at times. CKS wont tolerate turnovers either.
Who said there is no MSG does allotment ? My rep did confirm UH was getting tickets… and the ticket office was going to work on the Michigan game first (email just received this week) and then the Alabama game
I have no Cougar Rep (mine quit in the spring and was never replaced,) but I emailed Cougar Pride and they claimed we would have an allotment. I have never been to a game at MSG, so I am excited.
Posted in the Football portion vs TT, but felt it was applicable here as well:
To my coog brethren out there, I just wanted to say again what a phenomenal era of Houston Athletics we’re living in. Just got thru scrolling thru my sports social media & when I say we are out there EVERYWHERE, I mean it’s like a full eclipse. From tonite’s game vs TT,which i will be locked into NO DOUBT, SC w/Amare & Makhi, the announcement of four Top 100 BB recruits for 2027, it’s like I’m in heaven. Fritz & Sampson are the most dynamic duo of FB & BB coaches in the nation, & not just coaches, but leaders of men. I mean it’s crazy how these two guys operate w/the NIL-selling guys on the university, the city, & the COOG WAY. I don’t even look @ the cats from a recruiting situation that choose not to come here, regardless of where they’re from. I’ve never trusted two coaches more to bring in guys that fit our CULTURE more than these two. I’m telling y’all I’m freakin JACKED to be a COOGS FAN. Get out & support our teams as we’re living in an unprecedented era of cougar athletics & yes i’ve lived thru the PSJ years & Yeoman’s VEER. We are on the cusp of GREATNESS- H-TOWN TAKEOVER is a real movement & we’re beyond BLESSED w/the trajectory of our programs!!!

Old Man podcast….Great interview. Lots of info. Pesik touched on a lot of points. A few additional things stuck out to me…
He used the term “quality depth” for this team.
The best question to me was…what previous cougar team does this one remind you of and he said 2022…he also mentioned that team had 4 post players that we could throw at you
…also said “super 6th man Moore”
That team had 4 off the bench until Sasser went down. Ramon Walker played 20 minutes as a defender off the bench…hmm
Mentioned our big men going against each other in practice. Jojo and Diane vs Recco and East…Also mentioned how the big men got hurt last season and Cenac was all he really had to work with. Seems like the plan last season was to use the big men differently but they never got a chance to implement a lot. Maybe some of the stuff was supposed to happen last year….like Jojo playing some 4…just a guess
It appears Mercy hasn’t earned Kelvin’s 100 % trust ( most of it probably on the defensive end ). Once he does I presume Coach will let him cook on offense ala Rob G, Q, Sasser, Shead and LJ. In the summer Kelvin was asked about Mercy and without mentioning Mercy’s name he then talked about defense or lack thereof for a couple of minutes.
Yep. I mentioned that interview for those that said Mercy was good on defense on here. It was a long rant too. Went into specifics about the defense.
I still think Mercy starts but with a short leash. Esp with Weaver on the bench.
Mercy went from bad to respectable on defense…To where he can at least play…but still not up to CKS standard. I imagine that is why Rez thinks him starting isnt set in stone.
I dont think changes are made unless we lose a couple of games due to it though.
i think he will also introduce the 3… jojo would have been drafted 2nd round if he declared last year… comng back to me means he wants to show something he hadnt previously shown … it wont be high volume, but i wouldnt be shocked to see 1 every game or every 2 games
Waiting to get allotment tickets before booking airfare and hotels
When we visit NYC we usually stay on the Upper West Side around 72nd-79th St. Love the Central Park experience without feeling like we’re staying in the middle of the tourist areas… also close to Fifth Avenue, Rockefeller Center, Broadway, Times Square and excellent subway connections. The downside is that it’s much busier and generally a bit $$ expensive.
It really depends on how much money you’re trying to spend. It’s already going to be expensive because of the time of year. If money doesn’t matter, I’d say Chelsea, Manhattan, etc.
yes, 6th and its not even close… he doesnt touch the top 5
you pick a favorite player you like (or hate) and just start making delusionarly bad takes to support that stance
grimes - lead his team to a final 4, AA, POY - not close
sasser- part of final 4 team, sweet 16 team, AA ,POY, Jerry west winner- not close
shead- star of an elite 8 team, Sweet 16 team 2x, AA, POY, National Dpoy, - not close
LJ - Star of a national title runner up team, AA- not close
Rob Gray- did the most heavily lifting of any guard on this list… averaging 20 on our 1st truly success team in 30 years… scoring 39pts including the game winner against a top 10 defense to get us our 1st ncaa tournament win 30 years - not close (to me)
“hilarious” means its obvious and unquestionable that kingston is above multiple of these players…who is Kingston above on this list? MAKE A LIST AND GIVE YOUR REASONING
the only discussion is that Rob wasnt a AA, and Kingston was… but AA is an established winners award, not an award given to rebuilding teams…
a guard that averages 24pts a game to carry San Jose St (mwc) to their 1st ever at-large tournament invite, barely top 25 finish and their 1st ever tournament win, will not be an all-american…
a guard at duke doing 14.5pts a game surrounded by other 5stars, they will…
what the guard is doing at san jose is harder.
and I actually put some stock into accoloaides… becuase if i didnt… id have corey davis, dejon and edwards ABOVE kingston!!! - because all-american is still all-american… but for example senior corey davis was a better offense and defensive player than freshmen kingston!!!.. but ignore this point
give me the multiple players in my top 5 who kingston is obviously and why??
Look at all those “small guards” in your top 5 lol. But only because they played longer . Interesting KF was only here for one year, yet you have ranked over Nate who was here for 2. Yet Nate would be the best guard ever if he stayed. If Nate and Kingston stay 4 years, who is better in your eyes? Serious question
you brough a point that i wasnt making… kingston would be the best guard if he played here 5 years, hinton would be the best if he played here 5 years… if they played 5 it would be kingston
kingston is tall and athletic for a pg… im also confused about that …its about positional size … a 6’3 pg is tall… and if we are lucky he’d have grown some more
remove the size debate which i dont think connects here… i think Kingston’s offense is a bit overblown here for how good it was as a freshmen (tech and tcu put bad defenders on him)… overblown and all its still comfortably the best “freshmen” offense weve here in ages, 2nd only rob if we look at full program history (added context that freshmen werent allowed to play during some previous glory days) and his defense was at a decent starting space, better than freshmen sharp… kingston on the growth trajectory of an average UH sampson guard would have been the best UH guard ever… im including drexler …
