2026 Big 12 conference

@BYUcougarfan true, haha. I could feel the same about Texas Tech. As a neutral observer. Whos watched College Football the last 30 yrs.

Tech has NIL, great fan support, & Mahomes. 3 good things to have for a school.

I want teams that have good brands & fanbases to lead our conference.

Houston has one of the weaker football brands. But, is in an talent rich recruiting base for football. Sleeping giant

Iowa State did incredible things under Matt Campbell. But i think they take a step back now as a program

As Houston is today. Utah was in 2000. I believe.

As far as the NFL, it’s interesting that BYU has as many big names in the league considering how few players we have in the league. Guys like Fred Warner, Puka Nacua, Taysom Hill, and Andy Reid…

I do think as of today you are right as it pertains to brand size.

Looking at Houston’s 2026 Schedule:

Date Opponent Location
Sep. 5 Oregon State Beavers TDECU Stadium, Houston, TX
Sep. 12 Southern Jaguars TDECU Stadium, Houston, TX
Sep. 26 at Georgia Southern Eagles Paulson Stadium, Statesboro, GA
TBA at Colorado Buffaloes Folsom Field, Boulder, CO
TBA Baylor Bears TDECU Stadium, Houston, TX
TBA Oklahoma State Cowboys TDECU Stadium, Houston, TX
TBA Cincinnati Bearcats TDECU Stadium, Houston, TX
TBA UCF Knights TDECU Stadium, Houston, TX
TBA at Kansas State Wildcats Bill Snyder Family Stadium, Manhattan, KS
TBA at Texas Tech Red Raiders Jones AT&T Stadium, Lubbock, TX
TBA at Utah Utes Rice-Eccles Stadium, Salt Lake City, UT
TBA at West Virginia Mountaineers Mountaineer Field, Morgantown, WV

Very Lax OOC, and home schedule nothing too crazy but we have old AAC rivals in Cincy/UCF, and what should be a rivalry game against Baylor.

Potential to face off against 2 highly ranked teams later in the year (TTU, and Utah). Might be some potential wild cards in WVU, Cincy, Kansas State, and Baylor but overall weaker than average schedule going off current expectations (baring transfer portal, recruiting, and coach changes).

Depending on the hype, rankings, and marketing we’ll have a good year for attendance and brand.

O/U on wins?

7 should wins
4 toss ups
1 likely loss

Set it at 9.5 wins?

Depends on if our Home Field Advantage returns as a Home Field Curse. But 9.5 wins seems reasonable.

Current Projections
OSU - W
SU - W
GSU - W
CU - W
BU - W
Okie Lite - W
Cincy - W/L (toss up?)
UCF - W
Kansas State - W (lost head coach)
TTU - L (Might be toss up, but recent history is an L)
Utah - W/L (Just lost their 2nd longest tenured head coach, but toss up)
WVU - W

Potential BYU of 2026 schedule.

Some fun road destinations, except Lubbock. Seen one tumbleweed, you’ve seen them all.

Yeah, the more I look at it the more I like 10+ wins.

If UH wants to compete in the CFP, it needs to up its scheduling game. No one is impressed with that schedule. Even undefeated.

UH home schedule is ok next year. Also seem to have gotten a lot of the lower half of the teams from this year.

That said, with this conference, who knows who will be good and bad next year. There is a lot of room for surprises in the Big 12, which makes it such a fun conference.

Unfortunately, TxTech also has Cody Campbell, who has almost exclusively focused on $pending on Football.

We don’t have that for football. I feel that Pez & Fertitta sorta tried to focus primarily on Football during the Dana tenure (pre-NIL)…

But that came back to bite them & the rest of Admin in the ass. So I don’t think they’re eager to do that again. Especially bc now you have full-blown NIL to address, too.

Disappointed finishing the year with 4 on the road. The last four games of the year are peak weather in Houston

Not even 1 or 2 home games the last 4 weeks.

Not sure if you are serious, but in case you are they haven’t released the dates of the conference games yet

Oh I am serious but now relieved. Here’s to hoping for late season home games. Thanks haha

My wife is from Boulder, I can probably get that one. Salt Lake is about 14 hours from here (n of Seattle), or equivalent to the trip we did to Berkeley for baseball this year, so I can probably do that one too.

I thought you were, but I’ve tried to be helpful before when it was a joke haha

Again.

Would Baylor v BYU not constitute the ULTIMATE ā€œStone Cold Soberā€ college football matchup?

Not sure if this was missed or not but Fernando Lovo just became CU’s AD
Took Eddie’s place at New Mexico when we hired him

Fernando was CTH right hand man during his tenure here if I remember correctly
