This is true, although the 3-6:30 ish Fox time slot cheapens the count a little bit because they’re much easier to come by now. The big 12 got probably 10 times more of them from the last round of media deals.
Don’t get me wrong tho, i love when we get them, it’s good for the conference, and it’s way better than the alternative. I dont remember the exact details of how and why this happened, just that it’s true. Something to do with the implosion of the Pac and our deal being mixed in nature.
Those late afternoon early evening fox broadcats do bump the numbers up tho, just not as much as you’d think. abc and cbs slots tho yes absolutely do.
Yeah but he’s not wrong tho. Nobody actually “likes” the I-State logo. Best you’ll get from anyone is “it’s an ok logo. I mean it kinda works, i guess.”
I can appreciate this. This one is like alcohol sales, i think. Bet they change it in the next 5 yrs with new ppl in charge.
This is why we get along so well… we’re used to dealing with smugness from ALL of the other P4 schools in TX.
I will say I’m loving the rivalry forming (maybe recovering is a better term) between us & Tech. Social media is starting to pop off already for the game coming up in a couple of months… and I’m here for it!
Yes!!! Wiggy gonna carve 'em up!
And Hughes & Sanford are gonna run it down their throats!
You know Wiggy wants to make up for last season!
Hughes is a beast, ELITE pickup… and Sanford had a really promising year!
It’s crazy how much you and BYU have coming back and then I look at our roster and i gotta do like max research and I do…but i still couldn’t tell ya how anything is gonna look in an actual game, AT ALL lol.
Other than Raynor is gonna be very fun to watch.
Hey Purple, I did not know CWF was the original purple hat guy with that purple suite at B12 media days.
Hey @BYUcougarfan @MountainCoug , these are cool!
I generally listen to the BYUsn guys. I like some more than others, but generally pretty good.
Seemed pretty fair and reasonable here
Micah Harper in his 7th year is wild…!
Don’t watch the media days, so not sure what this is about Fritz. But if he coaches UH and wears purple (not at UH games hopefully), then he is still moving higher up my list of great coaches.
More than fair, IMO. Just giving any respect/benefit of the doubt to Iowa State Football like they did purely as a successful institution and athletic department, and not just solely due to Matt Campbell…is unheard of.
I think it’s fair to say the bones were there consistently before Matt Campbell, and it was a great fit. Not sure Penn State is a good fit.
Before CMC, when things hit lows, we just had a couple coaches who were not up to the task in the ways this specific job requires.
1st) We had a guy who could recruit pretty well and he could coach, but didnt like human beings in general lol, and he didn’t wanna be here. He didn’t embrace anything about ISU, good or bad.
2nd) Then we had a guy who loved our ppl and wanted to be here, fully embraced the challenges of the job head on. But he was just not a great coach and an even worse recruiter.
I think Jimmy Rogers checks all the important boxes. His 1st class ranking is already the same as Campbell’s average tenure ranking during all those winning seasons. He’s won everywhere he’s been, and he wants to be here.
Yes, absolutely, the media picks for channels will show who they think will get the most views in a time slot. (In terms of media value not fan base…)
2 caveats: First they still must meet their contracts so Vanderbilt will get a broadcast slot even if not expected to bring more viewers. Next, they prefer to go with the tried and true, I think, and would like to stick with just the big names over hoping if a cinderella will bring viewers. Thus preventing growth in lower brands.
Another example, I get entertainment out of, deals with fan base vs media value: Reading Red Raider forums and they have a huge infatuation about how they dominate the DFW marketand TCU has no fans (This will switch to UH once the Coogs start getting more valuation recognition). Thread today with several whining over TCU being near them in program value. Yes they have more alum in the DFW area than TCU by numbers, but they do not look at viewership.
2025 Tech final regular season 3 games on way to CFP:
vs BYU - ABC - 4 M (This is a good number for Tech)
vs UCF - FOX - 1.4 M
vs WVU - ESPN - 895K (under 1 million is bad on ESPN) (TCU-Cincy had 2.7 M on FOX that same afternoon
Now compare
2022 TCU final regular season 3 games on way to CFP:
vs UT - ABC - 5 M (A 6-3 UT)
vs Baylor - FOX - 4.4 M (A 6-4 BU)
vs Iowa St - FOX - 4.3 M (This was a 4-7 ISU team coming in) (Higher than TECH’s best on ABC)
Can go to show how there can be a large difference in media/viewership value vs fan base/alum. I would bet money that Tech sells much more merchandise to alums than TCU does and they easily sell more football tickets at home.
Same hometown as HC Jimmy Rogers.
They probably went to HS together ![]()
All of this is exclusively thanks to Max Duggan, EP…
The Johnny Manziel of Council Bluffs!

Johnny Cornball…?
Yeah, he was a Freshman All-American that year despite only starting 9 games! He’s got a cool story. Something to follow you can get behind…
Harper tore the same knee twice at BYU. The year before and the year after his AA campaign! Ouch.
When he came back for 2024 he said he felt good in camp, but was probably only about 95% physically, and mentally kinda iffy at game speed. Obviously, the team got better fast too, so that must have made it tough.
Harper said he needed an opportunity to simply enjoy football again, and going down a level to Montana provided that.
He talked about overcoming not only his ACL injuries and regaining his confidence, but also dealing w/ personal issues at the time, including the deaths of his childhood best friend and grandfather.
Now, we get to see if he can finish on a high note at a P4 school once again.
