2026 is really Year 1 for Fritz

Great Idea!

Tried to discuss this, rationally, earlier, until it got taken over by the “misery zombies”…

I’ll repost…

O-lines don’t change as fast as other position groups; unless you have 10’s of millions of $ to buy the best players in the portal; and Willie has made clear he’s not going that route. He’s building a Program, not buying a team.

If you don’t think Willie knows the o-line needs to be better, I don’t know what to tell you.

I know he is working on it and will get it fixed.

Want to bet? What do you think you would do to me if I said it to your face?

:man_shrugging:t4:

Laugh at you, and probably verbally berate you but would have some lingering respect for the guy who had the balls to come to me and do it.

It’s less about the fact you’re saying it, and more about a person being able to defend themselves in the moment.

Like you ever been in an office and hear some people taking crap behind the others back about coworkers… weak. Now say that to my face and we might even be friends.

And there it is, this guy doesn’t give a crap about UH, as you can see how he treats long time UH diehards. He came here crapping on anyone that criticizes Fritz. How endearing.

You cut and paste out of context…

You are, yet again, putting words in my mouth.
I never said I don’t give a crap about UH. Those are YOUR WORDS, not mine.

You’re nothing but a troll.

You go on to say… “as you can see…” as if you are trying to convince some ghost audience of your logic.

WTF?

I have news for you. What you see as logic, others see as b ullshit.

…and… “longtime UH diehards”? Really?

First off you assume the duration of one’s fandom is proportional to the quality of that fandom. I will tell you they’re mutually exclusive.

…and…

Second… You infer that there’s some majority of Coog Fans out there that actually agree with you? Seriously? You are just a tiny piece of a vile and vocal MINORITY, who are never happy. You’re even less happy when you come across someone who is hopeful or optimistic, or, heaven forbid…. Disagree with you.

Most authentic (mature) Houston Cougar Fans I’ve come across on this message board want to discuss football and not troll the people who don’t share their opinion.

But a very few of you are so conflicted that you denigrate the very program you purport to care about.

O-line sucks
CW sucks
The OC sucks
The DC sucks
The HC sucks
Anyone who thinks we might win Saturday sucks
Playcalling sucks
We run too much
We pass too much
Special Teams suck
We’ve always sucked
We’ll always suck

There’s NOTHING wrong with constructive criticism. It’s actually a “good thing”. But if you believe that, then you have to be able to, every now and then, be open to the idea that it might be YOU that sucks?

News flash !!! >>> If all you do is complain, it’s YOU that sucks.

You’re not going to convince ANYONE you’re correct by regurgitating misery as if it were some kind of autonomic body function.

The only one you’ve convinced is yourself because you’ve spit so much garbage for so long you’ve convinced yourself you are righteous (and that UH Football sucks). And you’ve created (or are trying to create) a small “cult” called “UH Diehards”.

Oooooh…. Mufasa… “UH Diehards”.

I’m getting chills just hearing that phrase. It strikes fear in the heart of all who hear it. It is the wildcard you play whenever you’re losing an argument. Use it and all your foes will bow down before you in fear and awe!

Definition: A small vocal minority who have been suffering together on a message board, in misery, for so long, they are unwilling, and borderline incapable, of seeing the good in the very person (people) who are there to help them appreciate good things again. Misery loves company.

It’s our way or the highway.

We like to complain.

At least we’re good at that.

Ya’ gotta’ be good at something.

We’ve done it for so long we’ve created our own language that actually demeans our own team…

We call ourselves… “UH Diehards”.

Don’t you think that name might come across as “we’re expecting to lose”?

How about this instead…. How about… “Lifelong Coogs”?

But we never played Football for UH. Shouldn’t it be “Lifelong Coog Fans”?

No, it’s not legit enough. It’s “Lifelong Coogs” sounds more official as if we actually have some authority.

Ok, I guess that’s it then…

Yeah, that’s it…

The 3 of us need to come up with a motto.

How about Coog it?

Man, you’re on a roll today…

Forever more, our Battle Cry will be…. Coog it !!!

Yeah, that so awesome!

For the record… most of the posters I’ve seen on Coogfans, are very insightful and passionate about UH Football.

In no way do I have anything against anyone for having been a fan of Houston Football their entire life.

In fact, I actually admire that loyalty. But I refuse to believe that being a fan of Houston Football for all or most of your life means you have to join others in misery and lose hope for the future of UH Football.

Shake off that stench, and have faith. It’s what true fans do.

DISCLAIMER: The majority of the previous post was sarcasm. It was used to make a point; not to demean or degrade anyone.

Being a Coog isn’t really about having played for UH so much as it is about having attended UH, in my mind.

Very few, if any, people that post here ever played a varsity sport for UH,

But a majority did attend or graduate from the school and naturally have a built in connection to the school and program on that basis.

It’s no different than being an Aggie or Longhorn because you attended aTm or UT, regardless of whether you ever played a sport there.

That said….this is CoogFANS (emphasis added) .com, NOT Coogs.com.

This is a site for FANS of the program as opposed to either alums or former players.

Some of the die hards here never attended, much less played for UH.

Neither is a requirement to be a fan.

Fans of other teams are also welcome as long as they come in peace. That, of course, has not always been the case.

All that said……

You are a fan thanks to your connections with Fritz, and of course, that makes this the place for you.

And I agree….we definitely have some negative Nancies. Personally, Fritz has already exceeded my expectations in year two, and we still have a chance at double digit wins. As is true of everything, there’s always room for improvement, but I’m not going to complain too much about this season, given that.

Careful Law, debating with a Willie fanboy is a losing proposition… even for you.

Of the 3 games we lost (all at home) we have been out coached in 2. TT was the only one much better than us.

Not much of a debate.

Just clarifying what a “Coog” is.

I agree with him about the Negative Nancies part.

This may the worst thread in the history of Coogfans.

Suggesting that a coach’s 3rd year, is his FIRST “real” season when he’s getting paid millions to do a job and has more resources at his disposal than any other HC in the history of Houston Cougar’s football…is laughable

I know many coaches that get fired in year 3.

Year 1 & 2 definitely matter…you are paid to find a way, any way, to win the games in front of you

Every new head coach gets ONE “freebie” sucky season in the first year.

Even Sampson got/had one.

Year 2 has to show improvement, and that has indeed happened.

Fritz’s 2025 season went the same way as the 2nd season of the previous coaches before him.
Get off to a good start and then struggle in October/November.

2009 Sumlin
2013 Levine
2016 Herman
2018 Applewhite
2020 Holgorsen

If you even breath in Willie’s direction Dude thinks you’re trying to call for a firing. It’s absurd. Lol you better say everything went perfect or he pushes his false dichotomy.

I’m pretty darn happy with this team. Yes, the losses to West Virginia and TCU were disappointing, but we are way better this year than I was expecting. I think we are in good hands with coach Fritz. Go coogs!

I want to make the playoffs, not just be good.

If we were in the AAC, then expectations are different.

Fritz took from laughing stock to respectable in 2 years. He’s showing to be a strong recruiter, so let’s judge by what this team is doing in year 4 when the roster will be made up almost entirely of players he’s brought in.

I assume no “booms” from this weekend. We did lose a 4 star to Ags

That’s not good. Let’s see how it turns out but at least he’s made some significant changes upward to the program.

If this season didn’t teach us anything else, it taught us that our real recruiting advantage is in the TRANSFER PORTAL.

Let’s see how well Fritz mines it.
