2026 Recruiting

Ward wasn’t highly recruited - Woodard was the last big time recruit from the jump - the ones after were solid G5 guys they normally produced

Bay City had that monster class in 2002 or 03 when they had McDaniel, Manning, Smith, Price, Pointer, etc. they were loaded in football and baseball

Disappointing for sure, but life goes on. He played at three different high schools so I am not sure he would have been here very long if he showed out. Money talk these days, and these kids have no loyalty to the schools they sign with…only how much cash is available.
That really worries me with future recruits because we are all set to be prey for the scavengers…even TCU and especially Tech and BYU in our conference…

I think tech and Houston have a lot more overlap than byu Houston.

I think Baylor BYU have a fair amount of overlap though.

So much for the theory that we are an NIL powerhouse.

Bucket 2 is fan fiction.

Sure wish we could find a rich enough sugar daddy.

And one that actually cared about Athletics…

Because apparently we do have donors, just not enough that care about Athletics. At least, thats what i take from it when CKS emphasizes that other Programs succeed because their donors care about athletics.

He’s right.

Tilman cares about athletics, but it has been more for facilities and coach’s salaries than NIL, or at least, that’s how it seems.

Same for our other big athletic donors.

We need an NIL sugar daddy like Tech, Oregon, etc. have.

Tillman is the from the era where your name on something means your legacy is cemented - if he spends $20 million your going to know it’s his and I respect that

I can;t see him giving money away freely like this knowing there’s no return on investment - so your going to have to wait for a younger version who only knows this type of thinking

So how does the big 12 solve this talent disparity between the ACC and the Big 12?

By getting talent like this.

Wait! There was a theory that we were an NIL powerhouse? I must have missed that one.

With average recruit rating it isn’t so bad outside of the “big 3” for the ACC. Also Houston look much better by this metric. I bet if we visit the 5 star 4 star chart in a few months there will be lots of dudes that worked into being 4 stars during their season.

edit: @RezClone @zrf

Iowa State and K-State are definitely developmental programs, but I am still kind of disappointed.

@justinhub2003 Any hopes to land some big names to bump this up for Cincy?

That certainly helps. We need all of the big 12 to do that

Another interesting takeaway is that the Big 12 has more 5 star dudes.

All I hear from people like @Cullen is how NIL is going to even everything out and how “bucket two,” of NIL is going to help us become a big power…yada, yada, yada.

Yeah WHATEVER!!!

UH is NOT a big NIL school, and “bucket two” is mostly fan fiction. We don’t have enough NIL to retain our best players (see Haulcy), or even beat out TCU for a top recruit…from ANY “bucket.”

Assertions about how NIL is advantage for us and not a disadvantage are just silly. And unless and until a big sugar daddy steps up, that isn’t likely to change. NIL is about the rich getting richer, NOT making things more even.

That’s fair, and it’s obviously something we’d like to see improve.

On the other hand, it’s hard to be too disappointed from a completely ISU fan-specific POV.

Here’s some quick numbers to kind of establish a baseline vs. where we are now:

BEST ranking ever pre-CMC: 59th (82.64)
WORST ranking in Campbell era: 59th (85.28)
Highest ranking under Campbell: 39th (86.56)
5-yr avg ranking PRE-Campbell: 62nd (82.03)
Avg rank entire Campbell era: 50th (85.32)
Avg rank last 7-yrs: 48th (86.0)

We kind of are what we are recruiting-wise, and that’s not likely going to change a whole lot any time soon. It doesn’t really bother me at the end of the day…I prefer to wear it as a badge of honor, personally. There are plenty of ppl up here who certianly disagree with that perspective tho lol

That’s actually pretty impressive. Good for him.

This would definitely move the needle.

Look for UH to rake in from two to as many as four (two or three most likely but we’ll see) four-star recruits over the next couple of weeks along with a very high three-star. Three of those players are top 30 players in Texas. The fourth is in the top 40. The two most likely pickups are top 25 in Texas. When it’s all said and done, we should have about the highest average ranking per recruit in the Big 12. If we’re not first, we’ll be top three.
