They made a good hire and the women’s team should be really good in a couple years. Mitchell is a really good coach with a fun style of play

She was previously ranked by espn but looks like the latest update she is just outside the top 100. Still a big get for her size/versatility, and tapping into the CyFair Elite program which is the top girls aau prog in the state.

Coach and his wife and daughters sat next to me at the Final Four. I really liked them all. Last I heard his kids got accepted at Kinkaid. There are a few ex UH players that coach at Kinkaid now. Maybe we can get some of that money trickling across town!

Great group of girls, so happy we were able to hang on to all 3. This class of recruits is a difference maker, and we said that to Coach Mitchell off air when he was on our podcast. We’ve got our WBB “Kingston Flemings” w/ McCorkle + 2 agile bigs, most critical positions set for the next 4 years. Now we just need to focus on some shooters from the portal going into next season for a nice 2nd season bump in performance next season.

We didn’t speak about Flemings’ sister specifically, but I know they were recruiting her. We just don’t have enough of a track record yet to attract the top Texas recruit on short notice. But what was interesting is that Coach Mitchell is similar to Coach Sampson in having a specific profile of player that he seeks out. Doesn’t care/look at ratings. Because Coach Mitchell plays that “40 Minutes of Dread” full-court pressing style D & trying to get easy buckets off of TO’s, he looks for athletic and fast. Especially with his bigs where they may be smaller than other teams’ but can transition back to O from D before the other teams’ bigs can react.
But when they were at the camps recruiting and he was trying to describe the type of player he wants his staff to look for/recruit, McCorkle just happened to be playing. They were there to watch another local Houston-based player, but he pointed to McCorkle to say that this is the type of lead guard he wants. Super quick, great vision & handles, and can get her shot off quick from the 3p line.
After the game, inquired about McCorkle’s potential interest since he knew the AAU coach & had great success with one of their former players while at UK. The rest is history!

I like the 2 freshman that were held over from the previous staff as well. Kayla King is going to be a really good player. They are going to get good experience taking there lumps in conference this year.
