2026 World Baseball Classic (Houston Edition-Pool B)

Who’s going? Got tickets today vs. Great Britain, March 7, 2026. A really good opportunity right here in our backyard.

I wanted to see US vs Mexico but I don’t want to pay $200 for nosebleed at Daikin. That appears to be the most coveted matchup. Its gonna be a fun tourney. I hope Altuve doesn’t play.

$70 for section 234 vs. GB, decent backup game. There could be some rowdies out for that Mexico game

My father in law is going.
Islenos from St Bernard, LA.
No Canary Islands teams so they squeeze Mexico.

During the WBC UH baseball is vs AR Pine Bluff.
March 6th, 7th , and 8th.
UH Baseball is playing UTRGV Feb 20-22.

Why not UTRGV to draw some of Mexico crowd ?
(UTRGV has a home series v U of NOLA during the WBC)

Mexico plays noon on Friday and 7pm on sunday.

Going to be hard for UH to average 1000 this season.
UTRGV during WBC would have helped.

WBC starts today! Hoping to catch a few innings of this Australia-Chinese Taipei game before passing out. I went to one of the games at the Tokyo Dome in 2006 I think. Interesting place, very clean but no frills.

I will be cheering for the US but Mexico is obviously my close second.

WBC roster trivia:

Cuba, USA, Japan and Venezuela are the only teams with 100% of their rosters made up of players born in their respective countries.
Of the remaining teams, Australia is the only team that doesn’t have at least one U.S. born player.
Other than USA, teams with the most U.S born players are Israel 29, Italy 24 and Great Britain 23. (30 players on the rosters except for Korea which for some reason has 31)
Great Britain and Israel only have one player each born in their respective countries, and the player from Great Britain grew up in the U.S.
Of 150 players on pool B rosters, 94 were born in the U.S.
Brad Ausmus is Israel’s manager, and a couple of his assistants are old UH foes from Cincinnati during our C-USA years; Kevin Youkilis and my all-time favorite non-Coog, Nate Fish.

This atmosphere is amazing.

I’ve never cheered for Judge or Harper before. I feel dirty.

Fox 26 Houston. Witt just hit the roof with a ball in foul territory. That ChiSox catcher announcer says, “have you ever seen a ball hit the roof before?” C’mon man!

Save some atmosphere for tomorrow’s game

The othe pitchers look like sh-t.

And how do you have 8 hits and TWELVE BOBs and only have 8runs!

That changed quickly

Going into the bottom of the 9th, they have thrown more balls than we have total pitches. Only 43% of their pitches were strikes.
