Maybe like UCLA. They tailgate on the golf course around the Coliseum, we could take over the IM fields. But, I hear the Wilhamena Grove is supposed to be a cool hang out, maybe game day.
That new walkable tree alley connecting Architecture to the Library could be used for tailgating on game days.
I believe SMU had a similar set up
That looks really cool. I didnât know that they were doing that. I also didnât know they were redoing that area in front of the PGH building.
On another note, it seems like all of the new dorms look exactly the same.
Again, we really need that Medical Research building. Biomedical research is perhaps the AAUâs favorite metric.
They are removing the college of education and making it into a big green area. That could be a very good place for tailgating plus it will be short walk to the stadium. Hate to see less space for tailgating but need the garages especially if ever expand TDECU.
Football is secondary in this vision.
Parking lots are just straight ugly. Iâm a current student so it wasnât as bad as when yâall went to UH, but looking back at google maps photos just 15 years ago, this campus was so, so ugly. Would not have advocated for myself to go here or any other person to go to UH if campus still looked like it did 15 years ago.
Parking lot/tailgating spaces be dam*ed, this is an urban campus and we need densification. More parking garages opens up more parking lots to be converted to buildings for the growth of the university.
We can tailgate at centennial plaza when it opens.
Can confirm, itâs planned to be a parking garage:
The whole theory around building these parking garages is to free up space for greenspaces, and buildings along with keeping the campus an enclosed space for pedestrian walkability. Meaning instead of remembering UH being one giant parking lot, itâs now ingrained as a garage with nice greenspace outside it.
Where the Football Operations building are they planing to build a garage there or is that red block actually the FOB?
The tailgating will be interesting. From the stadiums I have visited, Arizona has a street they block off, like Cullen, all tents have a reserved space, SMU has the Grove, Kansas state has a huge parking lot with reserved numbered parking (higher donations are closer in), and UCLA has the golf course. I would like to see the Grove become the place for alumni tailgating the students can still have Cullen.
Thatâs the FOB, this was the 2023 master plan before they built the thing. Thereâs no way theyâre tearing down the $100+ million football building. That thing is worth more than the stadium right now.
I know they arenât tearing down, I was wondering if they were attaching something next to it since itâs pushed all the way out to the rail. But thanks for confirming it is the fob
I still donât like the parking garage next to the football stadium, I get it the only parking garage on that side of campus but next to the stadium I donât like it
Itâs absolutely beautiful. Those parking garages free up SO much space for the university to expand. Parking lots are a waste of space.
They need to tear down the old police station and put a new one on the ground level of the new garage. They could use half the ground level for campus police and tow lot and save space.
What we are seeing here is pretty much the accumulation of a 25 year plan by the end of our centennial year 2027. I remember when this started with the library and the rec center and student housing with Bayou Oaks and Cullen Oaks.
I think John Moores was really the force behind the rec center. Itâs amazing how far we were behind the times before that opened up in 2003.
That would be cool.
That is a screen capture of an old map of future buildings in red.
