It was kind of bizarre because it was based on actual gray seat complaints regarding their inability/unwillingness to attend games. How does that fit into your vanilla/Opie world?
Itâll be great when the cameras go to the other side so that those empty gray seats donât have to be seen on TV.
this game was a full sellout, one of the biggest attended games in UH Fertitta center history
Sampson has complained about the empty gray seats lets not act like its not an issue
Agreed but no one complains about the money those seats bring in.
Not a simple solution just like trying to get students involved.
I wish the folks who know they arenât going to use their tickets would go online and sell or donate.â
Tickets for UH hoops games will be at a all time premium in the coming years and scalpers will be cashing in
This is why Iâm a supporter of turning the court.
And itâs possible. AEW shot their video from the club area. Not even above it.
Itâs definitely possible Got confirmation from Athletics a few months ago, and they pretty much said it was going to happen until COVID hit.
The difference is Football and basketball can still accomplish their goalsâŠâŠBaseball never stood a chance.
Why not go back to 1968 ?
@EECOOG69 I was using KenPom as my reference and his site goes back to about 1997
20 years is a good barometer if youve been revelant/successful of late
If the students had any REAL interest, they would show up for the preseason exhibition. The one last year where Mark was injured. We drove 60+ miles to watch and only about 100 people were in attendance . . . . . pitiful student participation. Guessing there was no chance of them getting on TV . . . . .
They never even advertise exhibitions, at all, on campus.
Well, that would make 1 of us.
Well donât they bother to read the Daily Cougar or Coogfans?
I will go on record and say we will have the worst student participation in the Big 12.
I gave suggestions on how to improve buzz on campus. Maybe two were implemented and it worked!
But seriously. The ticketing system is the worst. I gave them the golden key as to how they can fix it and still maintain their contract with Paciolan. We shall see if a fix is in. Lauren Sampson hates the system, Marketing/GameDay Hates it. They never teach people how to use itâŠonly freshman are trained on getting tickets, but not transfers, international, or graduate students.
They said theyâre working on something new. Letâs see if that is actually the case. I gave them a list of security issues with that site and proof.
UH Athletics wasnât aware part timers couldnât get tickets. UH thought they didnt pay the same fees as full time. Turns out they did.
Pretty much chalking it up to an entire failure of how to get students into it. Leave it on the coaches and programs.
(Jeez I feel like I can get a job or paid for the attendance and buzz and student culture analytics lol)
And I appreciate folks like you trying to make a difference in student participation!
Why the hell to we make it hard for students by making them use an online system. Just have them show their ID and let them in. Also, it is my firm belief the the vast majority of gray seaters watch the game from the top of the section along the built-in bar. I have been to one game there and the seats are not great, with not enough grade making it hard to see over folks.
People in the club level will always hang out in the club level, it happens at the Rockets, Astros, & Texans games plenty.
The real issue is the camera, which focuses on the club level section instead of the student section, and it makes it look like the arena is empty.
To be honest, every UH Mens Basketball game I went to last season was very crowded. Especially when you compare them to the rest of college basketball.
Itâs a vibe, and people around Houston actually talk about the experience in a great light that donât even have an affiliation with the university other than itâs Houston. Thatâs awesome for the program and brand.
Iâm happy with our attendance, and i want to note youâll never get people to not hang out in the club level. Itâs the nature of the suite. People want free food.
But the rest of our fans have done their part, and Iâm proud of them for that and believe weâll continue to grow. Especially when we join the Big 12 & play Baylor & Texas Tech.
Those are 3 Texas Basketball superpowers. Going to be fun!
They advertised sellouts that looked like empty arenas a few times lol.
They were winter games but still.
I got yelled at a bit for pointing it out on social media publicly on UH pages, but it seemed to not happen afterwards.
True, to be fair the tickets are probably sold out in actuality (sales) which is greatâŠ
But that doesnât mean every seat will be taken, as many are owned by corporations, season ticket holders, or scalpers.
Because its annoying, you are creating a problem where there isnt one.
