I thought UNT would be a good pick but surprised they got in considering SMU. Aresco must have done some real convincing. They have brands that have real potential imo. They are a Texas, SE centric conference now. SEC lite.
I was arguing with someone last week that SMU wasnât going to the MWC.
This is the first I am starting to wonder if Iâm going to eat crow. This is pretty consistent with an SMU departure.
beyond belief stupidâŠDoes the AAC WANT to fail? UTSA and maybe UAB are only schools worthy of an inviteâŠLafayette and coastal Carolina far superior and no invite? Aresco really IS cluelessâŠRice is BEYOND patheticâŠNO REASON to invite themâŠTheyre in Houston? So what?? NO ONE cares about them or watches them!! AAC will get ZERO extra revenue from that bunchâŠYou want to share about 4 million 14 ways?? Good luck with thatâŠ
AAC sources are saying Aresco wanted to keep the Mountain West out of Texas and he may have succeeded with that at this point.
This is a blow to the MWCâs plans in my opinion.
Man if we had been left out, we would have fantastic roadies. San Antonio, San Marcos, New Orleans, Boca Raton and a walking distance down the street.
Now we get to go to Waco and tumble weed lands. Yuck !
If you want to add Rice for prestige, I get it.
If you want to take a chance on a market team or two, I get that too.
I donât get adding four market teams (including three with NFL teams and one in a market you already have), plus Rice, and only one team that is actually competitive with football.
I am back to thinking if weâd been left behind I would want to go to the MWC.
Donât forget in the end these decisions are made by the President of these Universities.along with theremedia rights partnerâs . Aresco may be the stalking horse in presenting certain schools it the President who say yea or nay nay n the final analysis, after doing a lot of analysis and consultation I figure with there accompanying U. conference Presidentâs. I think SMU maybe bolting along with Tulsa like someone pointed out here. Mountain west Commish has said he has a couple of schools they approached them about joining them. The UNT makes more sense in that light
You are correct to argue that because no team from the AAC is going to pay an exit fee of $10M to go to the MWC and make $4M. It makes no sense.
Itâs all about money and they might as well stay in the AAC and make $4-5M and kick everyoneâs butt to make it to the NY6 or 12 team playoff.
Should have been
Uab
Utsa
La tech
U la la
Just go to 12 and wait
14 waters it down too much from what they picked
A g5 with 14 is too much. Itâs almost too much for a p5.
U la la has been ranked.
That thought had crossed my mind with UTSA and Rice (taking both severely limits the MWCâs options), but North Texas? Iâd have let the MWC have them.
SMU would do well to go to the Mountain West, the AAC is CUSA 2
WoofâŠâŠ
All that I can say is wow⊠I think SMU will go to the Mt. West.
USF and Memphis⊠they seem stuck and screwed - too far east for the Mt. West⊠not sure what you do if you are in their shoes.
And - Iâm also not sure why they did not pick up one of the Louisiana schools. And I continue to wonder about So, Miss - man those guys have fallen into the abyss.
Compact conference. He invested heavily in the football crazed state. The SEC and BIG12 will be the main events but he will position these AAC games as under card bouts in large metro areas. Smart thinking Aresco. He pretty much locked the MW out of the highest football revenue generating state.
If I was Temple - Iâd consider giving the MAC a callâŠ
UTSA and UAB are both good. Charlotteâs a new program and sitting on top of their division in C-USA. I donât really get UNT or Rice, but the other four are the schools I predicted would get the call, and I guess if the AAC wants a G5 monopoly in Texas, then Rice and UNT arenât crazy adds.
Memphis and smu could go into funk of depression and start losing due to depression sorta like we did after the SWC. In bb it will prob be a 2 bid league. S miss went into that funk.
âŠexcept for the fact that these adds are going to force the best G5 school in Texas, SMU, to run to the MWC.
SMU is now peers with Rice, North Texas, and UTSAâŠlet that sink in.
The travel though, you could go to road games and still sleep on your own bed.
Memphis should go indy in football and beg the Big East for basketball entry.
SMU and Tulsa should, together, be partylining the MWC offices right now.
USF is just totally screwed due to geography.
