AAC Expanding To 14

But smu won’t sleep well so I see them trying to go west.

Prob why they went to 14 in case they lose smu and 1 other so they keep the Dallas market with unt.

I think SMU could have accepted Rice (prestige) and UTSA (different lane) but UNT makes me wonder if they’re already gone. (Probably not, but I can’t think of another good explanation.)

When it previously came up, SMU indicated absolutely no interest in going west even if Houston went with them.

I wonder if that’s changed. I think the AAC situation was salvageable but now I dunno. This feels exactly like the Conference USA expansion. Too many teams, too blindly focused on markets, allowed the Sun Belt to become the more competitive conference. If this is what SMU wanted, they’re weirder or dumber than I thought.

I see your point, however it appears much more compact than the WAC or conference USA. The big12 went for larger markets too. This is the “spirit” airline alternative to the major airlines narrative that Aresco likes. This could work.

Memphis and SMU fans are VERY unhappy with the news.

ECU and USF folks are upset too according to their boards.

This is all very interesting but I don’t see why we UH fans care one way or the other. Not our monkey, not our circus.

Sure Rice made some assurances to step up there game in funding their FB program.

SMU almost certainly had the votes to stop this if they had wanted to.

Either they’re okay with it, or they’re already planning to leave.

I’m not seeing anything on the AAC forum…not buying it quite yet.

C-USA is now C-DOA

I’d read that Tulane, SMU, and Tulsa were dead set against either La. Tech or Louisiana. I guess they wanted Rice so they’d have someone to slap around.

UTSA and UAB were in my picks. I thought Marshall because of location (not too far from Cincinnati), but they went for TV markets instead.

The AAC fans at the one I go to are… not happy.

Does CUSA survive? Who can you raid?

Seems like SMU and Tulsa I guess to MWC, and whatever migrates from CUSA to AAC, leaves the remainder of CUSA to merge with Sun Belt? If by name only, either CUSA or Sun Belt ceases to exist.

They still have eight. NMSU is an easy #9 if they need it. That’s enough to survive. Maybe they can bring James Madison up.

Can’t afford to lose anyone to the SBC though.

Shorts are getting filled from Wichita to Philly.

Of the additions, UAB seems like the one to take the promotion and really run with it.

I like UTSA and FAU to a lesser extent.

Rice COULD throw $ at sports and turn it around but they have shown no inclination.

North Texas is odd with SMU and they have to be fuming. (unless they have a move planned?)

Anyone know anything about Charlotte?
So many FBS programs within 300 miles + of there. Including ECU.

Someone should tell the fans on this site…they have no idea

They are not going to pay a $10M exit fee to make $4M.

This one for AAC expansion. Its rockin and rollin and the fun is just starting.

From the main expansion board.
