AI is the next big thing

I see a prediction in there of 6-12 months before the job loss tsunami hits.

Is anyone seeing job losses in their industries already ?

Personally, I think it may be more like 18-36 months out.
But are current college grads already feeling the pain ?

Makes the decision of getting a college education more questionable, I think.

Looks like Facebook is going subscription too. It’s just normal business practice. Ai is the same.

If it stops all of the ads, I’m all in.

Yea AI can make people naked, but it can also bring historical people back to life. Amazing.

It is bring photo editing to the masses. Photoshop and someone with intermediate skills has been able to that colorization in hours, for decades, now AI does it in seconds.

Stop all ads, :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:

Yea, I just used it to remove an errant hair that was sticking out in a photo.

I hope it wasn’t pubic hair.

The issue is in the legal side. How that gets resolved will have a huge impact on the communities associated. Right now copyright law requires human creation. Cannot copyright a computer generated image, thus all commercial use of it could be open to everyone to use. Have a great scene with George Washington in a movie, and that cannot be copyrighted if created by AI. Thus anyone could take it for their own use and not pay the movie creator.

Partial human involvement MAY allow for partial copyright of those elements.

Big concern is if the govt grants copyright to the AI creator not the user (ie creative person typing in the prompts). Then Microsoft, Google and Meta will own all content created. What incentive will there be for anyone to use it for commercial purposes as an intermediary (ad agency, design studio, fine artist, film production company, etc…)?

Once legal/laws are figured out, then we will see a clearer direction on the creative uses.

PS. I believe the same guidelines apply to music and written arts as well.

In summary: If a person uses AI to colorize an old photo, will they be ok with Google now owning the copyright to that color version for their use and/or resale? or preventing your future use of it after you stop subscribing?

It goes beyond Copyright law with people using AI to undress people or even make porn with them in it without any of their consent or I guess without their knowledge sometimes too.

That’s just one more issue the law will have to catch up with as there are many others with how this could be used.

And put this technology in the hands of teenagers and look out.
Serious questions.

Tech companies love to create a product then tell us that they can’t be subject to regulation, because otherwise their product wouldn’t exist. Look at Uber, who convinced states they weren’t a cab company (at least for a wihle). Airbnb is somehow not treated as a hotel operator in many states. It’s ridiculous.

AI companies should be subject to the same copyright laws that everyone else is. If your product rips off copyrighted material, you shouldn’t be able to get away with it just because you did it on such a mass scale. And they should be subject to massive fines for their products doing anything that requires a professional license (e.g. medical advice, legal advice, etc.).

A.I. is designed to spit out what it’s fed. It has no conscience about copyright, that has to come from the people feeding it data.

If the data it’s being fed is just the raw internet, it will surely spit out something that is pure intellectual property theft. I’ve had artist friends who have directly had their work stolen because they dare have an online portfolio.

The only way to prevent A.I. from being a thief is to feed it original or public domain material in a closed system. That’s it.

3 major areas of issues with AI for visual or other creative mediums.

  1. Commercial use is limited until copyright laws for creating are figured out
  2. Inappropriate use of AI which can cause defamation
  3. Stealing content by AI for use in its own creations.

Major factor at play - AI companies have all the money, lawyers and lobbyists that artist, musicians, and commercial designers do not.

Currently a creator (any medium) has convoluted means of claiming not to have their work used, but that is about as effective as telling a website not to share my info. I do not expect any help in this area by govt.

Lol I was thinking about that today. There also used to be lots of people on social media that were strangely very pro Uber and anti taxi, that I suspect were paid shills. They would find something that happened in a taxi, like a drunk driver, and be like see that’s why you should use Uber. As if an Uber driver couldn’t be drunk, too. Anyways they convinced a lot of people they were “ride sharing” when in most places they entered, and even for a long time, share wasn’t an option. I did use share before in Houston but I think it was only an option sometime last year while I used it in NYC and the California bay area several times years before.

Sorry, for the tangent.

Yeah, and these companies start off strong to get you to shift away from the existing service. Once they’ve pushed out the existing service, everything goes to sh*t. Like look at streaming. Everybody hated cable because it was so expensive. Now everybody’s paying for multiple streaming services, prices are just getting higher, and the new craze is “bundling” (i.e. cable).

You mean like blaming AI for nudies that were created by human users? Like that?

I don’t blame AI for creating nudes, I blame the people who asked AI to do so. I also blame the people who produced the particular AI without putting guardrails to keep it from performing those requests.
