AI (driven by ChatGPT/Open) truly took the world by storm in 2022-23.

But I think anyone who actually understands language models, data centers, and finance, should have clearly seen the writing on the wall around 2024.

  • Energy companies are using the AI Industry (not AI itself) to justify environmental deregulation
  • AI companies themselves are over-promoting and over-selling AI technology to justify more and more capital investment (that is still to this day, not generating returns relative to the cost to power these models)
  • Data Center companies are making a killing, but their industry will eventually crater
  • Financial institutions merely want the fees that comes with selling securities hedged on AI

The actual problem behind all of this is the Data Center industry, which is what will cause this bubble to eventually burst.

Good on Anthropic for trying to put brakes on this thing. I saw the article posted above, but I’m surprised more aren’t alarmed by this.

This is literally Terminator s**t, and we should be very, very careful how we roll this out in the military.

I find the issues in this Anthropic case to be interesting, though I haven’t done any sort of deep dive.
