I’m trying to figure out why you replied to WheelerBoy with this article as he was talking about “cheap” 3D printed homes. Otherwise, interesting article and certainly the increased demand from AI datacenters will spike electricity prices as we’ve discussed in this thread. That is why many of those data centers are building in their own power generation as part of their infrastructure.

My company is looking at a 7% RIF tomorrow. They are citing AI as one of the reasons, which is ironic since we sell AI in our product. I should know by about 8:00 AM tomorrow if I still have a job.

Regarding AI, in this year’s edition of Forbes Magazine’s “New Ivies,” the 20 New Ivies they picked out (10 public, and 10 private) all had, as a consideration, the degree to which they have enabled students to use AI as a path to success. See here.

I’m seeing two responses - 1) It’s AI slop and people should be supporting real
struggling artists 2) Good blues music, great voice , and people enjoyed it .

I feel like supporting AI-created music, literature, etc. is sort of giving up on the human experience. Musicians use their music to tell stories based on their life experiences. I don’t care about music written by some aggregator based on some random person’s prompt. It’s soulless. And I think blues is a particularly offensive genre to parrot with AI. With blues music, the human experience is the whole point.

Oddly enough, I enjoyed the video and music before learning it was all AI.
So I share some of your points raised. But obviously, without the metadata,
I can’t resolve what is human or not human.
So maybe we are approaching the sci-fi point of AI being our evolutionary
successors 
.

And to clarify, that’s just my personal opinion. I realize others may just like it for the product, and that’s fine. I just wish we’d start regulating this stuff. Anything AI-generated should have a stamp/disclaimer on it so it’s easy enough to tell.
Hadn’t heard of it. No opinion at the moment, I’m unsure on my opinion overall on AI art but I kinda lean in to what @ghostofjdjrusk said but also its debatable.
I guess in some instances AI is just a tool of the artist using it, at least with visual art, a person had to have the ideas its prompting the AI with. In others, if it is “make me a blues song in the style of x, or whatever”, I’m not so sure that the person prompting the AI is an “artist using a tool”.
We can’t unlearn what we know. So it’s hard to try to assess something honestly once you know what is behind the curtain.
I think we will see required disclaimers on all art(film,music,video and other) that is AI generated. (That may already be a thing in some countries ?).
This is like the new Pre-Fab Four vs the Fab Four of our time.
