Art was gone the whole time (three years) that Kolb started. Art left when Kendal graduated after the '99 season.
I have no doubt that some system based on Artâs was used in the middle schools and that Kevin was familiar with it, but I think I remember a discussion at the time (2003) that the coach that replaced Art in S.H.S. ran a different system.
I think the fact that both Art and Kendal have been able to implement the system reasonably well within their first year of each coaching stop is some evidence that the system is not that hard to pick up. IMO, the genius is in the play calling. And that was not up to par against SMU.
