Will the additional B12 money mean UH Athletics doesn’t have to go to the mothership for a loan? Will UH Athletics be self-sufficient?

I don’t think the full B12 money hits the bank until early 2026. Until then, they need a bridge loan.

The conference year starts July 1st, so probably in the summer of 2026. Still, has Nunez said anything about Athletics being self-sufficient? I know that is the goal. UH modeled out the revenue-sharing, so what financial shape is Athletics in?

If you look at the number of schools in the country squirting money out their thermal exhaust ports it’s amazing they only needed 10 million.

You are so right. We have done more with less for decades.
Let see what Eddie can do.

People are tapped out, college apps are down and people are angry at pretty much everything and everyone. I foresee bad times for college athletics.

I bet within 5 years there will be an actual lawsuit over who is the “national champion”. Just watch.

What do you mean?
Ucf deserves that National Championship.

This equates to 0.4% of UH’s budget. The estimated for the value of UH’s appearance at the national championship equated to $6.1 billion in marketing. Great value.

Translated: UH Basketball puts money in the left pocket, and UH Football takes it out of the right pocket.

No UH BB brings publicity & recognition to UH that we couldn’t otherwise afford.

And it’s hard to say, but UH BB (like UH FB) may be a drag of the overall UH athletics budget.

We up the budget from 80 mil ish to 100 mil per this as a first time ever.

Maybe this is why we borrowed some

However we can’t we stay at 85 mil and simply break even and no subsidy?

It’s the old saying , make more and spend more

Let’s see…

We are still feeling the sticker shock of joining the Big 12, but we should be closer to adjusting financially once we have some success in football.

Less than 2 dozen D1 athletic departments earn more revenue than expenses. Even less than that do so without taking funds from the academic institution. To expect us to be one of the Top 20 departments in the nation in profitability or anywhere close is borderline delusion. It’s not going to happen in 1 year or even in 5 or 10 years.

OMG, If UH has cut the athletic deficit to only $10M/year, then we’re making terrific headway!

Good point . Does this mean we only a 10 mil deficit?

UH is receiving a half-share of the B12 media deal for the 2024-2025 athletic year, which amounts to $19-20M. UH will receive full shares for the 2025-2026 athletic year which will be $31M, which does not include additional B12 revenue, like CFP games, bowl appearances, NCAA Basketball Tournament appearances. Add those in and UH could be receiving $40-$50M for 2025-2026. All is not hopeless, but it is a slow, uphill battle to get on a level playing field.
