Are We Recruiting at a Higher Level Since Joining the P4

Going forward in an analysis, we will need to account for our NIL ranking which should
have a big impact on our composite class ranking.

Probably should only be compared within our NIL budget tier.

Very true but I have hope that our NIL will pick up going forward. I suspect that there are some talented people out there that would do a great job of fundraising for UH and hopefully one of those folks will be the next AD.

I’m honestly not sure what NIL will look like with pay for play coming soon.

Nor I; I think there will be a base rate of pay for each player or position ( or maybe not ) and NIL
will be the big dollar deciding factor for where the 4 and 5 star guys go. Maybe even high 3 star
recruits.

Let’s see. Now that we have a competent head coach, you can see how good our recruiting is going to be.

We have 12 commits in the 2025 class. Half of those are equivalent Texas Top 100. I can’t remember the last time we had 6 in a full class. Fritz got 6 of his first 12 in 2025 to meet the criteria.

Demetris Dean
Travis Buhake
Jacob Bradford (LA)
Zaylen Cormier
Jacory Thurman
Reshad Sterling (LA)

Sterling will probably shoot up the rankings soon. But, for now, he is our 6th highest rated recruit in this class according to 247. With an LSU offer. Dana would never.

And look ahead to 2026. We have the number 1 athlete in the class and a top 25 WR in the class, most likely.

Fritz is absolutely cooking. And this is after he took a dismal 2024 class that he inherited from Dana and proceeded to have us finish in the top 50.

Our fans who think we should be a Top 20 for recruiting need to pony up about $30M per year for NIL and we can easily hit that mark.

Everyone has facilities that are at least okay. Everyone plays on TV. The differentiator will be NIL dollars. We are bidding against other schools. Of course it isn’t always a straight money play for recruits, but 4-star and 5-star players can weigh multiple offers just like always. The difference now will be how big is the paycheck.

We are a court case and settlement away from direct payments to players. Wanna get the hot recruits? Empty your pockets. We should be happy to be good, with lightning occasionally striking. That’s what we can realistically afford.

Yeah, that’s a tall order for any school or even multi-millionaires to be on the hook for
every year. My guess ( uninformed guess ) is that 5 million NIL per year
could buy you a competitive football class. Of course we also still have to feed basketball NIL
dollars. And of course the Ags didn’t buy much success with their dollars. It’s a real gamble with
athletes you are paying.

As for people like me, and I suspect most here, our pennies and nickels will not even collectively
move the NIL needle.

I remember hearing about Bill Yeoman’s monthly First and Ten efforts with automatic
bank deduction. We need that from at least 2,000 donors at $50/month now. What are the odds
our fan base would do that ? And that would only bring in about $1.2m / year

I also wonder if the new paid players and big NIL deals will entice more kids to take up football
again in high school. That could increase the supply side.

I’m in for $50/month…

Looks like we just got another commitment. CWF twitter just posted another Coog Paw! LFG!

Many of us older guys are on retirement income which is nowhere near our working income. With my season tickets in FB and BB and their respective CP requirements, as for as any further donations, I’m tapped out. UH is not my only donation recipient, I have my church (which gets the lion’s share as it should) and a few others that get automatic payments each month. I’m sure most of us do the same.

Are we recruiting at a higher level? Yes we are.

If you look at who we have committed for our 2025 class, all but a couple have multiple offers from P4 schools and they usually have offers from a couple of B12 schools and several have offers from schools like LSU, UT, etc. We have two 4 star players on that list and we also have signed two 4 star players on the 2024 class that we will have this fall.

Fritz does seem hungry whereas Dana seemed stuffed.

An important objective is to establish pipelines within Houston area High Schools.

Looks like Fritz is doing exactly that. Bravo!
