They may be as good as Boise state. The Big 12 was pretty bad this year. Ohio State, Penn State, Texas, and Notre Dame are better than ASU.
In my mind, ASU was champion of the 3rd best conference.
They deserve a bye based on that.
Go Devils!
I can’t tell if you are just trolling along with the other “doesn’t deserve” threads but the highest 4 ranked Conference Champs get a bye in the CFP. This season it ended up being Georgia, ASU, Boise St, and Oregon.
Poor ACC.
Maybe we should just have 1 seeds like March. Best 4 get it. All 4 winners the weekend I feel would beat the heck out of the big 12 champ.
We’ll find out next round.
One solution is to expand the playoffs bracket to at least 16 teams, allowing every conference champion in the playoffs. This is similar to the NCAA tournament.
Getting a bye week is one thing, but once again we continue to see the failure of ranking teams based on strength of schedule. This is, and always has been, a biased system. The B10 and SEC, along with the networks, will always believe they played a tougher schedule, rather than settling it on the field. The fact is, no one knows how good the teams are based on the names on the front of their jerseys. ASU could win it all, as could Boise St.
Case in point, Oregon barely beat BSU at home. I was there. In fact, I thought the Ducks were going down. Since that game, Oregon went undefeated in the B10.
What the Big 12 was this year was competitive…From top to bottom. Dont be talking about WHO is better than ASU. We’re going to find out who is better when they play. ASU is plenty good enough to beat all those teams.
Were you at the Wyoming game too? Which they won by 2 and didnt deserve even that? I am SICK of hearing about Boise…
I’m sick of hearing about the SEC. Give some time for the portal and nil to create some new rules. Of course espn will just move them to one of their conferences.
There is too much bias in the rankings to do the top 4. Conference champs as top 4 is better.
I mean they deserved it based on the format. I’d be fine with getting rid of the byes and adding 4 more teams to the field though.
If they expand the playoffs, they need to shorten the regular season to 10 games. Something has to give.
Agreed. They can start by getting rid of conference championships
No, I don’t follow Boise. I live in Oregon and follow the Ducks. That’s my second favorite team behind my Cougars.
As for Boise St., they almost beat a team that went undefeated in the B10, the same team that beat perhaps the second best team in the country in Ohio State. Again, I say determine the champs on the field, not by the name on the jersey.
We all have a say in this. You don’t watch? espn will have to adjust. That is the bottom line. It starts and ends with Dollars and…cents/sense.
The best outcome, always has been is to have all DIV 1 FBS conferences represented with six at large including a spot for best independent. Get rid of the conference game championship (another espn onvention) Have 16 seeds with conference champions hosting games. Speak about a made for tv event. A WSU hosting bama. That I will watch. Is it the Nation’s fault if the sec is dominating lately? No and therefore not one conference should get a preferential treatment.
This is what made college football the game that it is today. Reinforce local rivalries. Do not dismantle them because you want p2’s.
Will you include conferences like C-USA, Sun Belt, MAC, or Big Sky? The champions from those conferences will get crushed in the playoffs. You thought the games this past weekend were one sided…just wait until Bowling Green plays OSU. It will be unwatchable.
All of them since they are DIV I FBS conferences. Get rid of all of the bowls or have them renamed for the first round of these games. bama playing against the Sun Belt champion at their house? You bet I will watch it. We are looking at 16 teams not 498.
Why do you think soccer is so popular around the world? The underdog has the chance to play against the best. DIV 1 FBS conference champions? They earned the right to play in the cfp.
Furthermore it gives the host team to make so real money. bama can use this game as fine tuning.
