No self-respecting university would even entertain the idea of Briles. Frankly, hiring Kendal was too much for me; bringing back Art would justify every comment about “Cougar Hi” that anyone’s ever made.
I think Art is an unsophisticated country boy that is a Hell of a good football coach. In my opinion he was one of the three most influential football coaches at UH in the last 50 years.
He made some selfish decisions at Baylor. I for one can’t forget the terrible tragedy he suffered as a young player. Maybe that loss made him insular and a bit self-centered.
Can’t wait for the BU-TT game
Liberty has been stout this year. Very significant for a small private religious school. I’ve watched some of their games and been impressed. You don’t achieve their level of success without good recruiting and good coaching. I can’t imagine them abandoning their head coach. Offensive coordinator? Might make sense.
Jim, many are expecting their head coach - Hugh Freeze - to take over the head coaching job at Auburn very soon. If so, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if he took most of his staff with him to Auburn. He was at Ole Miss a few years ago but they got caught “tryin’.”
You remember the old SEC story line - “if you ain’t cheatin’ you ain’t tryin.’”
Wouldn’t it be just absolutely amazing to see UH FB’s own Art Briles go up to Liberty University and help them displace Notre Dame as (the place-to-be and) America’s best “religious” college FB program?
That would likely send most of Art’s harshest critics and accusers into an absolute tizzy fit - the likes of which we’ve not seen before. That would just be so worth it!
So what happened to Falwell Jr again??
Hadn’t heard the Auburn rumor but with Freeze’s success it is almost a given that one of the “big” names will come after him.
Lay off the hippie lettuce.
First of all, it’s not happening. ND is in no danger of being unseated by Liberty.
Second, the Jesuits over at Boston College might have difficulty accepting that Liberty is the second best “religious” college FB program.
He seems to be ok with Liberty… So I doubt he’s ok with anything associated with hippies.
I’d much rather watch Liberty get drilled… Ironically that makes me prime Liberty leadership material.
Ha Ha Ha - Now that’s pretty funny. Let’s see where Boston College actually does rank. The top “religious” affiliated college FB programs this past season were as follows:
#1 - Notre Dame
#2 - BYU
#3 - Liberty
#4 - TCU
#5 - SMU
#6 - (tie) Boston College & Baylor
Everyone has known for a few years now that the baylor regents did not give a you know what when female students were being raped. These same female students brought this up to this so called Christian school for many years only to be turned away. This disgusting politics of ignoring damaging testimonies started way before Briles got on campus. It was so prevalent that the B.Ball team had done these atrocities for years. Did Briles knew what was going on? It looks like he did. This is between him and the almighty.
These same regents are a bunch of hypocrites of the worst kind. They should be in jail for covering these heinous crimes. They are in the same evil basket as the penn regents and happy valley officials.
This so called journalist did not do her job. She is supposed to report then entire baylor raping culture not just the football program. How many times do we see this with the so called press?
Attorneys always take full stock in “alleged” accusations . . . . .
Well, Cuck a Doodle Do.
This will never happen, but if it did any remaining support for Houston football would evaporate in an instant. Got nothing to do with ego and everything to do with character. The ‘no evidence’ claims from lawyers hired by Baylor supporters ring hollow. There is a lot of stink that is stuck to Briles and it will never wash off.
HISTORICALLY speaking, the Jesuits (BC), Mormons (BYU), Disciples of Christ (TCU), Methodists (SMU), and even the Baptist General Convention of TX (Baylor) would all take issue with Liberty being the #2 religious FB program.
I’ll allow that SMU is now largely secular, but nevertheless, it’ll be EONS before Liberty’s football brand name catches up with theirs.
Hell, until Liberty becomes P5, their brand name won’t even be as good as Wake Forest’s (another “religious” college FB program).
Thanks Mike. I needed a good morning laugh.
I agree with you on the Liberty stuff but they do have outstanding athletic facilities though their football stadium is not as large as ours.
They have a football operations center and even have a separate soccer operations facility and a indoors football facility.
They even have a very nice indoor banked track arena.
I can understand why they are getting decent athletes but we will see if their football program can continue to be good while losing coaches.
