Astros-Minors

They just finished Top 3 prospects infield.
Young bucks looking good at every spot. They hit on some recent deep draft picks.
2025 should have system rank up big.

Not much for MLB ready guys except pitching.
Kess is still 'Stros # 3 SS prospect.
A few moments but upside seems limited.

Links to rest of infield in here.

Lots here.

In Fayetteville opening day victory the team had an interesting lineup……

With the exception of one player the starting lineup were between the ages of 18-20 years old.

Right direction and a change in philosophy.

Luis Baez ( RF) is my next Yainer Diaz pick.

I think he’s special.

Only turned 20 in January and is starting

at Asheville ( A+).

I mentioned in another post that Dana Brown is being more aggressive with his placements.

I’m not going to give a full scouting report right now….

……But we hear all the time about how our farm system sucks etc……our farm system does not have a ton of depth right now….the other thing missing are the “Bonus Babies”….

But we have some serious international talent that’s is starting to mature….it’s mostly arms but there are gonna be some names the next couple of years that you’ve never hear of.

If the Astros don’t want to pay Tucker then Baez could be the replacement and a possible ROY in a couple of years.

I hope I haven’t just ruined this kids future :relieved:

Kenny Gomez CF at Fayetteville batting leadoff doing Kenny Gomez things……at 18 years old.

I don’t know if you guys have gathered that I’m pretty obsessive about baseball( :joy:)on all levels….high school, college, minors( all levels) and of course MLB.

Anyway, the last couple of Astros drafts have been really suspect( thats another conversation) except for a handful of guys….

You have heard/read that I have mentioned I believe some of the college arms would work out.
One of the guys, perhaps THE GUY I am highest on is Jake Bloss.

I’ll let y’all look up the numbers and such but IMO he may wind up being better than Hunter and Spencer.

Got promoted to AA last week and made his second start for Corpus tonight….12 IP only 4 hits and 0 runs.

For a guy just drafted last year he is progressing quickly and successfully.

Rodriguez has lots of AAA innings.

Pinto has a little bit of filthy to him.

Not impressed with anyone else’s numbers….but obviously I have not seen them.

Melton had 2 HR’s tonight.

Chas’s time is coming to an end.

His last AB tonight was one of the least competitive plate appearances I’ve seen in a while. Terrible.

Minor league updates are appreciated!

I’ll give an update on what’s going on with all four teams once they have played some more games….they started a week after mlb.

McCuellers pitched 4 innings , only gave up 1 hit and struck out 5.

Same game-Space Cowboys

Blubaugh pitched 4 innings, only gave up 1 hit and struck out 8.

I thought I saw that the elusive F Whitley pitched for Sugar Land last week, too.

He’s had one good outing and one not so good( last night).

Not a lot of good news so far this year….the Astros don’t have a ton of depth in regards to legitimate prospects….but make no mistake there are some really good prospects that no one has heard of….

Dana is really pushing the young internationals at the lower levels which is great.

The days of 24 and 25 year olds playing “A” ball are over….few and far between.

I’ll talk about a couple of guys today.

The first is Alejandro Nunez.( MIF)

He signed with the Astros back in 2022 as an 17 year old out of Cuba :cuba: for only 35K.

Last year as a 19 year old he started at Low A before being promoted to High A for the last 12 games.

Still on 20 years old he has started really well at A+ Asheville……slick glove and good arm.

BA—.295

OBP—.376

OPS—.850

He has 4 HR’s and 7 SB ( borderline + speed).

He is more than 2 years younger than the average player at A+ and still filling out some.

Fully expect him to be promoted to AA by mid season or so….could be a huge find for 35k bonus.

Another kid to watch is Raimy Rodriguez a young 19 year old from the Dominican Republic.
He was signed as a 16 year old back in 22’. He is a right handed pitcher.

Raimy is at Low A Fayetteville where he is about three years younger than the average player in that league.

ERA—3.62

IP—27.1

H—13

BB—17

SO—41

The numbers show you he is still working on his control ( like almost every young pitcher)……But this kid has electric stuff and misses bats.

I’m sure Dana will promote him at some point this year.

With HW headed for TJ I figured I’d give a bit of information on Miguel Ullola.

He was signed in 2021 for 75K….he is not quite 23 years old.

He has great fastball that sits at 94 give or take 1mph….can get up to 97 every now and then….it has really good spin and misses lots of bats.

In two levels of “A” ball he pitched a combined 162 innings and gave up only 126 hits while striking out 236 guys.

In “AA” —- IP—127, H—72, K’s—166.

This year in “AAA” —-IP—24, H—17, K’s—34.

He would already be up if he didn’t walk too many guys….i know they are working on it.

Anyway, with this six man rotation it will be:

Framber
Hunter
Blanco
Lance
Last two spots will be a combination of Gordon, Gusto, Blubaugh, Ullola….

Also, have Spencer coming back in June.

And if things got really bad there are 4-5 guys that are in Corpus that can get major league hitters out.

IMO, the Astros develop pitchers better than any other team in baseball.

I agree, but we also seem to have a more difficult time keeping them healthy, especially starters.

Matthews and Alimber Santa chosen for Futures Game……could have played into why Matthews was not called up just yet.

I think I talked about Santa before back when he was in “A” ball….really taken the next step at Corpus this year……he will be an elite arm out of the pen pretty soon.
