Attendance & Spirit

Great idea ! May split it to kick off and 4th quarter. Please send it to AD Nunez !
Go Coogs !

I totally agree with C, plus our history of being a commuter school all add up to a apathetic fan base, look at all the other schools just in Texas, UT, A&M, TT, Baylor, TCu and their demographics in the student body and their cheerleaders lol.
While we are diverse which is fine I’m afraid it is biting us in the butt as far as athletics and I don’t see U of H ever trending back to a more traditional student body like other schools in the state. Might as well throw this out there also, I hear a lot of white families say they won’t go to Houston cause it’s unsafe which I disagree with but that unfortunately is our stigma and Scott St doesn’t help with that stigma

Oh brother, here we go. Baylor has worse attendance than we do so “traditional student body” isn’t doing jack for them

FYI Baylor is averaging 43,264 this year, yet they are not clambering to build a 60k seat stadium.

Student involvement and attendance is up, you can not expect any thing to change overnight, I graduated 20 years ago and the Greek system and student attendance is at least double what it was back then. Have you seen the Frat tailgates, I had to DRAG my brothers to the games. This year we suck and the students are still coming which shows a change in culture, but it takes time.

As far as legacy students, when I started college back in 2000, the only information I had access to was the rating magazine, campus tours and whatever I could get via dial up. Today there is tons of info out there. I would be insulted if my children did not first research their chosen major and schools before going to UH, sure I would love if they attended UH, and I don’t look down at other coogs whose kids choose to go to other schools.

Those are dubious numbers because this is how their crowds have looked. I’m not saying ours is good but

Baylor is unique, that is the students side the entire lower bowl, the yellow seats and the gray seats behind are the students sections. It is weird there, at least when we played them last year, there was very little on the secondary market, their facebook ticket group was dead, but whole sections of the stadium were empty. I think they price their season tickets cheaply compared to their game tickets because their single game tickets in the top of the upper deck were $80 or $100, so people just buy season tickets and miss most of the games.

UH has a bunch of front running fans. Win and they proudly display their UH merch, brag to their friends that they are going to the UH game, and wax poetic about their days at UH. They may even donate money while UH is winning.

If UH is losing, the front running fans keeps the UH merch in the closet, roots for UT or TAMU, and never attends UH games. They will not donate to a losing program.

If that is the mindset of most of UH’s fanbase, the only way to increase attendance and spirit is one word. Win.

Is that 4th quarter or first half?

Idk. Just know that was vs OSU. There many more examples out there where their attendance has looked like this. Not many schools can suck and still fill the stadium.

I bought my first football season ticket when Briles took over and got one for a buddy. We were on the 50-yard line for cheap. What a steal. When we started winning more, I got more people to join in – his girlfriend(s), a buddy we grew up with my wife, some of her friends, etc. It grew and grew until we were tailgaiting 15 strong during Herman days. Just from what I started. Now it’s back down to me and my wife and my buddy and his girlfriend. The others bailed once we weren’t winning 11-12 games. I have no idea how to change that.

It’s hard to keep people’s attention if they don’t have a deep connection to the school. Whether from attending, or being indoctrinated from birth (like horn and ag fans).

I remember BYU playing @ Baylor in 2021 and there wasn’t a seat to be had. Now
 not quite the same

I’d add that having a story makes people interested. It’s why I watch every UH game. It got me hooked. I have no connection otherwise

Go to the UC Bookstore. It’s open before the football games and they have a good selection with better quality stuff like Lululemon, Peter Millar, Johnnie O and all the latest Nike stuff.

My wife always leaves with a few new items and we go multiple times per year.
