I would like to see the Big12 football matchup of UH vs Arizona in Mexico
The goal is to increase full tuition international students?
If you’re middle class in Mexico, you’ll go to a local university. If youre upper class in Mexico, you’re going to t-15 school in the United States or overseas.
But I guess you can start somewhere and see if it works.
That would be awesome but the goal is 2 turn a % of Mexico into B12 T-Shirt fans.
I think there are a lot of levels between your middle and upper classes. The maid of honor at my wedding was a Greek girl we went to school with. Her family lived on an island in Greece and they were above middle class but not WEALTHY so when it was time for her to go to school she picked UH because her aunt lived in Houston.
Also I imagine a sizable percentage of Mexicans have family that lives in Houston. If we could get some of them to buy merch and watch games…
Don’t know if it’s a thought out goal, but that could be part of the pay off.
The number of eyeballs on the screen going forward is the end game. B12 is not interested in increased attendance at games or enrollment.
All the people that i know that have money from Mexico study at Rice, Tech of Monterrey, USC, or as they said a top 15 school. BUT the medical center here houses the best hospitals in Texas and a top 7 Hospital in the country. That’s to our advantage. Energy capital, plus city, plus medical, plus education and sports. That’s something to our advantage to catapult us into the next phase.
This does way more for the urban and southern schools like UH than the flyover state schools like the Cyclones and Kansas/St. I can’t imagine they would be supportive of this.
Good thing those are connected. Eyeballs on screen increases attendance AND enrollment.
The next thing is to make sure the product on screen is good. We have to win.
This is great if the money is there. If a school plays its home game in Mexico, its share should be equal or more than what it brings in from a regular home game then the rest can be split between the other schools.
Very smart
The only thing is, while that does present an opportunity to develop a new fan base, it deprives our existing local fans and alums from at least one chance to see the team per year.
Not sure if this is a good idea or not. There would have to be A LOT of money in it for us.
ply in Mexico in a year when you have 7 home games, so you still get 6 at TDECU
One game isn’t going to deprive anyone when you have 80k fans in the stadium and several thousands more going to see and becoming fans and flying to games here to see the team.
You think 80k fans will go to see big 12 games?
It’s got nothing to do with that, Yormark is trying to build a presence their long term it seems. Maybe 15-20-25-30 years down the road you have 80k attending you may never get 80k maybe 50k -60k who knows.
We barely fill our own stadium and you guys think fans from another country will come out to see us play?
But you’re talking about NFL teams compared to UH vs. UCF.
