but outside of potentially having to play them again later in the season (which i dont like- there will not be a bigger upset alert radar than that game… playing a team 4 times in a short win, when they reurn everyone)
but A&M as a scrimmage opponents is actually elite…its a a great early test that adresses a ton of our weakness
can uzan defend wade taylor? might not have a tougher matchup all year
can we rebound? elite offensive rebounding team- might not have a touger rebounding challenge all year
they played us close in both recent games and return so much, they will be familiar with our system now - there wont be a shock factor like with new opponents, it will be about improving the system
there likley will not be a more motivated scrimmage opponent - we ended their season, we are neighbors, in a game that came to the wire… and that last game single handledly gave wade taylor most of the backlash he has gotten… they’ll be motivated
it’ll be a packed house to simulate a real game
this will be an elite barometer of our weaknesses, improvements of offense… and quantifyier on if mccarthy/mercy should redshirt - wont affect eligibility
we signed a 2 year contract with the event organizers…
Houston vs A&M/ Texas vs LSU were the year 1 opponents … we were the only ones commited for year 2 at the time… there was likely an expectation for some bigger name …particularly in the other game
the fact we have to do a nuetral in alabama next year, shows concessions had to be made to even land them
Not necessarily, A&M is basically returning its entire roster and we were their last game
Returning a lot of player and finding success late in our last games is a good sign that the shock factor of our traps is gone
Most big 12 are flipping rosters, most of them didn’t didn’t figure us out on our last games either… Iowa state is the only big 12 that I think checks both boxes
They also got to play us twice. I hope they have a good year. It should be a fun game.
But if I was an Aggie fan I would be concerned about Phelps and Taylor in the backcourt. Ifthey’re on they’re on. But they could also both just start shooting A&M out of the game.
Obviously they need to shoot more consistently for A&M to find consistent success.
But the best thing going for them is Obaseki continues to play at a high level.
