Big 12 Basketball 2026-27

I think if you would’ve stated you see a lot of upside with Chase and believe he can one day be a better defender than Sharp It would’ve been taken a little differently than stating he will be an upgrade.

Bingo. It’s the absolutes every time. And then people get mad when you call out the tomfoolery

I said Chase would be a SLIGHT upgrade to Sharp. Maybe i could have been more specific and said at the 3. But people would have still had something to say.

The clip pesic posted pretty much sums up what i think is an upgrade at the 3 on defense. Rim protection and blocks, boards, length to shoot over, help defense to keep Tugler out of foul trouble. That player in the clip that Chase blocked was 6’7

This guy #12 from Idaho is 6’7. Thats what i want to see our 3 do to shots. I consider this ability and rebound ability at the 3 a huge improvement. Can Chase guard the 2 like Sharp? Nope. I wasnt even considering him playing 2 …so maybe thats on me.

I still will stick to Chase not only bringing a huge impact in the paint, he is going to cause issues on the perimeter. Will he body bump and cause issues dribbling like Sharp? Nope. A totally different style. Chase is going to be hard to shoot over.

Will he guard Krevas? Nope (and its a shame i have to type that ish)…but any stretch big, i would rather have Chase guarding them than have Tugler running out there and getting fouls.

See… that wasn’t so hard…

Agreed… Cha$e is gonna be NIIIICE at the 3!

Looks like Tugler left a 7’1 center to come and trap with Chase…oh no…is that Uzan underneath the basket with a 7’1 center? The sorcery!!! He’s not supposed to be guarding a 5!!!

We are calling the position a three now because. Chase fits the mold, but really the 2 & 3 are interchangeable defensively. I think where he will be good at is trapping down and recovering with his length and athleticism. I will be watching to see how good he is switching off onto guards. I think he can help along with Jo switching everything for bigger guards taking us in the paint.
I feel good about Mercy as a straight up defender and Weaver coming off the bench will be great.
The guys I want to see the most on that end is Dedan and Haddnot.

That’s exactly what myself & someone else already told you…

Having to guard someone one possession because they got switched is not the same as being able to play that other position which is what you wrote.

Maybe you meant just being able to hold down the fort for one play after being switched into a mismatch but that’s not what you wrote…

Being interchangeable from 3-5 means you can play all of those positions and that’s what you wrote… your words.

The only players on this team that can ACTUALLY BE INTERCHANGED at all of those positions is Tugler and Recc imo… and I’m not even sure Recc could hold down the 3 because I haven’t watched him play enough…

After this discussion and finding out Hadnot is 6’1 yesterday, i am worried about the perimeter defense. While i do not like the undersized 3 at all, we did have 3 guards that gave other teams guards the business. All three could defend on the perimeter at a high level and were quick and tall size for guards. Our defense was designed to give 1-3 a lot of trouble.

Now it looks like it will shift. While we should still have decent quickness we take a step back in that area on the perimeter. With Mercy and even Chase. Chase has length to make up for it. Mercy still needs work and Hadnot and DJ are short. Does that mean guards are going to get better looks from 3 this year?

Weaver is definitely a wild card and can help solve that problem quick. I think we will most likely be focused on shutting down 3-5 this season. And i am ok with that. Because once March hits, all games are on the road and 3 point percentage goes down.

Interchangeable. I meant what i said…My prediction is Chase will be guarding bigs some on the perimeter and outside the paint. Tugler should be the roamer. A big tries to get Tugler out the paint, what would you do? Make Tugler follow or have Chase run out there and guard him? Tugler has to stay out of foul trouble. The 3 and the 4 will definitely be interchangable at times too.

Why is it when JWan used to come out on the perimeter and occasionally defend a guard, yall say he can guard 1-5. Knowing dog on well if a player with the quickness of King would go right by him. But noooooo. JWan can hold guards…OK. But i say Chase can guard a big it sorcery…

In the scenario of the Pesik clip…Our defense wants to stop the dribble. Jojo leaves his man to trap. Maybe he was supposed to trap baseline, i dont know. Anyway, the rotation is weakside, so its Uzan. Thats our defensive rotation. It happens quite frequently. Jojo is supposed to trap and the player picks up his dribble.

Lets say the trap would have worked. Jojo and Chase traps. Uzan is under the basket with a 7 footer. Jojo has done his job so he needs to get back to the center because Uzan is in a huge mismatch.

Lets say its a taller more athletic player under the basket instead of Uzan…You have options. You can keep that trap and play for a steal. Force the trapped player to make an accurate pass over the head of the taller more athletic defender…like a Chase…

You know what IS hard rn tho?

So alligator arms is back…LOL. He is a really good player but has no reach. We had some guards like that. Cory Davis and Rob Gray come to mind. Funny story…Bishop once joked that Davis and Gray couldn’t get the keys out of their own pockets. I almost fell down laughing. Reach is not everything
