I watched him play full games all season, not just highlights. He has a strong post game. He’s not a bully in the paint, neither was Hakeem. I’m talking about post skills not being a bruiser. I watched him a lot and there needs to be context with everything you’re saying. He was not extremely aggressive, it was a guard heavy team, going into the season he was probably seen as their 4th best player. He made major strides and he was only a sophomore. His biggest growth will be in his confidence and mentality. He has a very good post game.
i watched the full tcu and sdsu game…where we was completely irrelavant despite being on the floor
(i watched all the high major games of delrocco and east when they commited to see what could translate)
we probably have different definitions of good post game… but if you are paired against a 6’8 210 centers as a 6’9 245 center and cant get post points, that is not a a great post game to me
I see both points on East. He does have skills, but as far as post…back to the basket, he hasnt shown it on film. Maybe he has in practice. I assume he has been working vs Jojo at the 4.
East can score in the paint though. So it may just be terminology. Paint vs post. Similar to the Cenac debates. Yes he was effective…rebounding and scoring…but no physical post up game.
@pesik. So with the recent talk of the 4 big rotation, how do you see us using East? I originally had him only playing mop up duty and getting in when its foul trouble, but it seems like he will be part of a planned rotation and will have a role. The other 3 bigs have post game, so maybe he will be used like Cenac…just guessing.
Respectfully watching two games at the beginning of the season, when he was barely playing, isn’t the same as watching him play. You keep using one or two games to try to fit your narrative. And saying he’s average 20 points if he was good. He played 22 min per game lol
From SI:
Other widely known skills that East brings to the table are his tremendous interior scoring ability, as he slithers through traffic and bulldozes defenses, along with his rim protection. East is crafty about reading where players are on the court and timing the jump to basketball.
Another article:
-
East excels at playing through contact. He uses his massive frame to seal off defenders deep in the paint, frequently converting physical layups, putbacks, and powerful dunks. [1, 2]
-
Technical Post Footwork: Beyond relying entirely on power, he has shown advanced technical proficiency in the post. He frequently deploys quick spin moves, turnaround jumpers, and a disciplined jump hook to back down opposing big men and score over them.
Yall gotta stop acting like Pesik has some insider info or elite basketball knowledge that everyone else is lacking. “The other 3 have post game,” is hilarious in context. So because Pesik told you he doesn’t have post game, it must be true. Shame
20 mins isnt barely playing (The games i watched)… he played 24mins per game season wide not 22
and yes his minutes also tie to his capabilties
i dont get how this is a point, when we have delrocco … delrocco is smaller than east, far worse shooter than east, played in a better league than east …and delrocco was doing 18 a game
i was curious why you didnt link the article… this is fan written article … (fan is a strong word, more aspiring college student writers - anyone can apply to write article for them, it unpaid… i could make an article for them if i wanted )… this isnt notable scout…
the scout doesnt even make sense… i read the full scout portrays him like a low post bruiser (and nothing of his perimeter skills) when that clearly isnt his game… i posted highlights above and the all his points from his biggest game… that scout doesnt make sense
here are his advanced analtyics
his best skillset is his mid-range game… not mentioned
these are the weird takes i talk about… why are you trying to make post to disparage my credibility… its such an odd thing to do
when have i claimed to be an insider or expert???
instead of just laying out why you think he has a great post game you chose to take shots at me… its weird…
i regularly give outs to have room for disagreements " we probably have different defintions of great post game" …
from the clip YOU posted
these are time he trued to post up small players, but just had to settle for long hook shots
in the entire clip YOU posted he successful back 1 player down it was a guard, and an absolutely insane level travel …
an again he played in a bad mid major!!! where he had a size advantage… at 6’9 245lb
my definition of great post game, is we can throw you the ball in iso in the mid range, and you reliable to the post and score on them on a regular basis
more advanced stats
the post up is his least efficent offense post offense at .74 points per possesion

added film context because he settles for long hook shots on his post ups
Unc you definitely have the wrong impression when it comes to me. I like pesik takes, but i dont agree with a lot. I just dont go back and forth with him.
I also didnt see any post game in what was posted online. If its something out there that shows something different, then post it so we
can see and we can know too.
Whatever rivalry yall have im not siding with either one. Just wanna talk Coog hoops and get some idea of what to expect next season. Somebody on here will guess right…
Whether East has a post game or not…seems like he is going to play either way. What’s the relevance? Im asking. I really want to know.
CKS has given minutes to players that had below average offensive output several times. And has played them a lot. So what matters is how will he be on defense. Thats the bigger question.
I know its basketball and scoring is important, but we are a defensive team. There’s a lot of talk about 3 pt percentage on here too. CKS dont care about that. If you can defend, know the defense, dont make mistakes, hustle, can board, you have a good chance to play
Again, I’m the only person in here who actually watched him play. I’m not disparaging you @pesik Im simply pointing out that you are once again using absolute verbiage to describe something you really don’t know. He’s a versatile scorer. Now you’re saying he didn’t play more because he wasn’t good enough and he should’ve dominated etc. I’ll give you a good comp really quickly. Yaxel played 3 years JUCO before going to UAB so his 4th year (1st at UAB) he averaged 13 and 10 in 30 minutes. Last year, East (2nd year of college) he averaged 13 and 9 in 22 min. I don’t understand this mindset of “if he was good he would’ve average 25 and 12.” That makes you lose credibility, like you don’t actually know the game. Like you’re just a stat watcher or an analytics guy. You screen shot two plays and wrap your narrative around it. I’ve WATCHED HIM PLAY MANY TIMES. The thing is, his posting up and getting a layup isn’t a highlight. And you know that. So he’s not gonna have “highlights” of turning over his right shoulder in the paint for a layup. He’s gonna have highlights of 3’s, drives, face up, because it looks better. I think he’s a versatile scorer, but he can most definitely play in the post.
But I will concede to you that you are not gonna throw him the ball 20 times with his back to the basket and expect him to score 12 times. My point is he has good footwork and skills in the post, but he is not a dominant low post scorer
It only matters in reference to Pesik saying he has no post game. So I was just correcting his statement. In regard to the actual game and PT, you are correct. All that matters is that he’s able to contribute in some way. Which I personally only see about 10 min per game at most. I could be wrong, but time will tell
comments were about growth trajectory
the east convo stemmed from the fact that he will likely be heavy favorite to start next year along side diane…
as we will have 3pfs on roster (east and 2 commits), so we might not add anymore… of the 3 expected to be on roster next year east is has to be favored
the context wasnt about this year but the starting point of his development… and what needs to level up over the coarse of the season, so he can be ready by next year…
i noted his already had the skill part (shooting and touch)…but need to improve his physicality, bully nature and post offense… uncle thinks he already has a strong post game … thats the convo
As much as I would like to be at the practices and see this team I cannot so I have to rely on those who have witnessed. What I’ve heard about East is he is physical, tough in the post and fits our culture perfectly. Having JoJo and Gillespie to match up with daily, along with Diane is going to do wonders for his development. What I’m hearing about him rhymes with what I remember about Gorham as far as skillset, just probably a little more inside and less outside than Gorham…
Ok. Got it.
If we are talking next year…the dominant post player is hopefully Arafan by far. East’s game will need to be a good compliment to Arafan’s dominance. Im sure he can develop enough to at least prevent bigs from doubling Arafan.
We have a few tune up games on the schedule. We will see
“what i really dont know?”… why would i not know
ive now shown film, analyzed the film you posted, and put up multiple advanced stat charts
ive watched 2 full games of his (high major games) extended game highlights of his best games, … and clipping of all his offensive makes through the season
- what classifies as enough watching of him…to have “watched him”
- are you saying you are watching extensive full of every game of his lamar basketball games??? how many??
aslo ive watched a clip of every make he made this year…in regard to defense i 100% understand needing full games (or off ball offense)… but we are talking about post offense… why would the additional full game context matter in his post ups??? its captured in the scoring clips
Yaxel makes absolutely no sense
-
Yaxel was a juco all-american, WE heavily recruited him out of juco … he was putting up crazy juco numbers… i think 19pt and 13rb average … he had like 25 offers
-
UAB was in the AAC the 8th best conference… comparing flatly to the Southland is such an insane take…the heavy transition questions are minimized with a10/aac/mwc transfers
-
i heavily follow AAC ball… UAB under shady recruiting Andy kennedy put together an insanely stacked roster that year … yaxel wasnt their most touted big recruit, it was christain coleman, the #1 ranked juco also A PF, or wasnt even their preseason projected best player as Eric gaines “entered” that season as a projecteed lottery pick (even tho it flooped)… Added context: Yaxel started over Javian davis (who had SEC starts) and Will shaver a UNC transfer
- uab was a tournament team that year and yaxels 13 and 10 was team leading
- yaxel was 1st team all -aac with those numbers, aac dpoy …and entered as the preseason player of the year entering that next season
that Yaxel comparison is absolutely insane
let me clarifiy… if east was on a ncaa tournament team in the AAC, averaging 13 and 10, id be calling for him to be the starter this year
for the clip YOU provided…i noted you are showing this as evidence… lets analyze it
ive gave tons of film first… and advanced analayitcs
that is better than a scouting report from some random 19 yr old kid …which is all you have provided
stating “youve watch him” is not evidence, state why
you love to discredit other will making ridiculous bad takes yourself and bringing no evidence …
TO BE CLEAR TO EVERYONE:
- on the very first post i gave an out “that maybe we just define great post play different”… no one need to be right and wrong
- he is the one that respond, i have no clue what im talking about, and know nothing about east… he could have just responded that he likes the footwork…
It was absolutely stacked for sure. I loved watching them play. To your point, I was fixated on Coleman and his like 44 inch vertical. I remember the Gaines hype too. Lendebourg was there and was good, I definitely would have taken him.
It’s crazy what he turned into at Michigan. I didn’t really see that coming.
Yes after his third year in JUCO…East has played 2 years of college ball, what are you talking about? It’s an easy comp. You’re so busy trying to be right, you tend to shift things to fit your narrative. You make up on the spot what’s good numbers and what’s not, what’s a good conference and what’s not, what’s good size and what’s not. I’m simply showing that Yaxel as a 4th year player put up very similar number to East as a second year player. I’m not sure where you are confused. I also didn’t post any film of him “as evidence.” If there’s highlights, it’s because it was linked to the article. Also funny you mention we “heavily recruited Yaxel as a point to show how good he was…weird we recruited East as well but he doesn’t get the respect. As I’ve said before, sometimes you know more than the staff, and unfortunately some folks in here actually believe you.
RW has just noted he’s heard very positive things about him too, but somehow you’re the expert because you do “research.”
You are the one obsessed with being right. In almost every debate I have with you, I give you an out. I’ll say, “We can agree to disagree,” and you’ll respond that that’s just something people say when they’re wrong.
You also love making fake assumptions about me with nothing to back it. If I regularly shift my standards for what conferences or player sizes are good, then point out where I’ve done it. My takes on this have been pretty consistent.
You were literally there when I was hyping up the possibility of us getting Miles Byrd, a 10 PPG, 5 RPG wing from a mid-major in the MWC. I had Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn (MWC) AND Tylen Riley (AAC) ranked higher than Dedan in my PG “proven pre-rank.” Go back to last year with PJ Haggerty too.
Where have I been inconsistent???
You make up discrediting statements about me with no evidence and then just pretend they’re true.
On the other points:
I noted that we heavily recruited Yaxel because tons of teams were after him. My point about Yaxel was that he was nationally sought after.
East was a different situation. East recruited US. Kellen even noted on the podcast that East’s extremely strong desire to be here played a role in recruiting him.
Also, when have I ever claimed to know more than the staff?
I’ve never once claimed to be an insider or an expert. Most of my takes are based on credible sources. In fact, a common criticism I get here from RW and Pollard is that I rely “TOO MUCH on credible sources.” and falling for the “agenda”
Last year, I quoted 4 different sources saying Kingston was not an elite shooter. Pollard responded exactly like you, “I’ve watched him play, he’s an elite shooter,” and we ended up in a long debate. That’s basically the same argument you’re making now, “I’ve seen it.”
YOU are the one who thinks I’m an expert. when no one claimed that
Also, what does RW’s vague post from an anonymous account have to do with any of this?
“I heard East is going to be our starting PG”. We can now use this post to discredit advanced analytics and film?? I’m curious
its color coded… red is bad … im not the one who made this

I can’t lie, I’m not reading all of that. Stay safe man. Keep using your analytics, it gets you a good following. Don’t trust eyes, don’t trust the staff, don’t trust other ncaa coaches, trust Pesik’s research lol. I’m excited to see Abdullah this year as our 4th big…oh wait.
