I think the perfect two adds would be Utah as a BYU Partner/Rival and Colorado for the Market.
We don’t need the Arizona schools IMO.
I think the perfect two adds would be Utah as a BYU Partner/Rival and Colorado for the Market.
We don’t need the Arizona schools IMO.
Why?
I think this message board will put in frequent appearances on Message Board Geniuses.
Yes, familiar with which ones the Big 12 would be looking at. I mentioned those that the B1G (Big 10) would probably have to grab to break up the PAC before the other 4 would leave for the Big 12.
Personally, I think Utah, BYU, and TCU back together would be very dynamic after all the rivalries from the MWC garnered a lot of attention between them.
I am not getting why so many on this board are so negative and down on the Big 12 … it is a great improvement from where we were - just because the PAC 12 may have taken a look … at the end of the day - we are in the Big 12 - it is f’ng great for the university generally and athletics - we’ve been dying for it for 3 decades - and those left behind (SMU, Memphis, USF) are freaking crushed … not sure why now the Big 12 is such garbage and we must immediately tell ourselves its not good enough and pine and whine for the PAC 12. Stupid.
And - what is to say Utah and Colorado may not move to the Big 12 eventually - it would be a good fit - neither of those schools are tearing it up in PAC 12 and if the money ends up being roughly the same - they may decide to try their luck elsewhere.
Utah, Colorado, Boise State, and Memphis would be good additions to get us to 16
Gives BYU some closer conference mates and Memphis bridges WVU and UCF to the rest of the conference as well.
If they brought those four in, it more than likely means that we’ll be long gone to the Pac 12.
Nobody from the pac 12 is moving to the Big 12.
True
It is a long-shot.
Look. Being tapped into the Big 12 is the greatest thing that has happened to UH in a quarter century. Nobody is arguing against that.
I am just saying that if the PAC comes with a bid, we accept in a nanosecond.
If anyone doesn’t believe the new contract in 2023 won’t be in the neighborhood of $60-70M per school (with UH), you are crazy.
Wanna stay at $25M under this scenario ?
Duh.
Nebraska? I recall hearing that they were looking to reposition because they’ve been uncompetitive in B1G. Maybe B1G money is worth being a has-been.
Nobody from PAC is going Big12 unless it gets raided hard. It’s more likely some Big12 teams will go to PAC first opportunity they get.
Yup. In the “Open Mike/Did I Really Just Say That” Category…
Funk pointed out yesterday that the Kansas AD said to the effect “We are keeping our options open…”
So while I am supremely happy to be in the Big12, it doesn’t mean that I’m not looking as well…for the Betterment of UH and UH only.
We make the most of our Big 12 opportunity but we continue to look for ways to improve our situation, and that includes any chance the Big 12 raids the PAC for 3 or 4 schools.
I think we all understand that is a long shot but for the “Big 12 is the best spot for us” supporters, I have these questions for you:
With that said…If we can steal Colorado, Arizona, Utah and add Memphis, I think that would concrete our P5 status. We’d be adding THREE state flagship public Universities.
Get to work Big 12!
If the Big 12 adds four more G5s then we know this is their equivakent move to the Tulane, East Carolina, Tulsa addition in the Big East. They both would be viewed as panic moves.
The Big12’s P5 status isn’t going away. The P5 deal is mainly a media term, but it’s tied to a conference’s Autonomy 5 designation (A5).
The Big12’s A5 designation is written in the NCAA’s constitution and conference insiders say that there’s no interest in removing the A5 designation. I’m too lazy to find the article but it was written yesterday.
In other words, at worst, the Big12 would be perceived as the weakest P5 conference, but a P5 conference nevertheless.
Besides, all of this is moot if the playoff expands and the highest ranked conference champs get an auto bid to the playoffs.
It is not going to be close. Get over it. Just look at the demographics and eyeballs.
The PAC will garner a huge number. Right now, the SEC is what $70-75M/ team ?
I don’t believe that the PAC will get that much, but it will be close. IF…they add Texas (UH+1), then that number goes up…
The Big 12 is stuck at $25M/team, right (?), until 2025, right ?
Don’t be so sure.
The PAC-12 has one MAJOR disadvantage when it comes to TV contract negotiations: its primary TIME ZONE!!!
Sort of limits national eyeballs.
I love the fact that we are again in a Power conference. What we are writing about the PAC12 is very simple and I will ask you the following.
Why is it that teetech, Kansas, and other BIG12members did say they are keeping their options open?
That alone is an obvious question for concern. We all know the answer of which conference is more stable between the PAC12 and BIG12. How many schools did the PAC lose in the last fifty years. How many schools did the SWC and PAC lose during the last fifty years?
Strictly from a road trip perspective would you prefer to play against the following schools:
USC, UCLA, UA, ASU, COLORADO, UTAH, STANFORD or CAL
or
Baylor, okie state, teetech, tcu, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State?
I grant you that it is much easier to get to our closest neighbors.
I just don’t see any Pac 12 team leaving for Big12. That seems like a somewhat lateral move at best. Why pay all the exit/entrance fees for relatively the same $$? Plus there are no blue bloods in the Big12, so strength of conference as a whole will always be questioned. Now if a Pac team were to move to B1G, then yes we might be able to poach leftovers depending on who and how many left.
If you’re Arizona, you get to play USC/UCLA all the time. Those are storied programs. Who in the new Big12 can match?
The only way I leave the Pac-12 for the Big 12 is if I think USC-Oregon-etc are going to leave for the Big Ten. Even if I am Colorado.
