Big 12 eyeing PAC 12 schools for future expansion

You are probably right but I’m not so sure seems like Arky has been down for awhile .

And the BIG 12 seems like a natural fit.
Can’t a guy dream lol

NGH

The pac 12 will take Houston and TCU and the big 12 will get boise and Memphis to replace them

We’ll see.

I’m not so sure.

Why?

Well, because, as I said, the PAC-12 is mostly locked into West Coast start times, which greatly limits the number of national eyeballs for many of their games. I can’t help but think that that will affect the value of their TV contract.

It’s not always about how big your markets are. If there’s little to no audience in the country outside those markets due to west coast start times, then it can affect the value of the TV.

TCU isn’t going anywhere.

Will be a public school with larger following for TV $$.

Many other more viable options.

If Pac12 want to have games in DFW for TV eyeballs and recruiting, adding TCU will accomplish that. Adding Tech or OSU doesn’t.

You replied to my post but I know I didn’t say they deserved any increase.

That being said, I’m not sure they deserve a decrease. They have marquee names which the B12 does not. The B12 will probably be a better football conference but that doesn’t always matter.

We all have to look at demographics. Numbers do not lie. Adding the greater Houston area and greater Dallas area makes logical and more importantly financial sense. It gives the PAC12 two huge media markets to draw and capitalize from. It bridges a time slot that is obviously attractive to everyone concerned.

According to US Census the 6 states of the PAC 12 added 5,682,924 people over last decade. The 11 state Big 10 region added just 2,829,808 and nearly a million of that came from DC/Maryland and Jersey. The Big winner is SEC country with 9,326,834 with two thirds of that growth coming from Texas and Florida alone.

If PAC made a move to grab 2-3 Texas schools and Okie State, growth would be at 10,000,000.

The growing Eco power is in The Mountain Tine Zone.

Arizona.

Its current population is equal to Greater Houston or DFW. And increasing.

But The PAC 12 actually is popular here. Late start times. Not here. The games start at 07:30 pm. Not a problem. 60 million people are still alive and awake then. For all of September and October Arizona and California are in the same time zone.

I agree with so many that no school will bolt The PAC 12 for our Big 12.

and do not forget the defenses and OL

The thing about the western part of the US is how panoramic it is. I lived in AZ for a year and rarely saw more than 50 people under one roof at a time.
People out there live there for a reason and it ain’t to huddle around the office cooler. They are naturally Spartan in their lifestyle and a bit distrusting of outsiders. If you go to Utah for a game you won’t have a hard time moving on to the next activity the following day. The place makes you want to get out of your car and see things. I felt the same in Colorado. I’d love road trips out there. In fact, I just got back.

I love it out West. My mother’s family is from Colorado, it’s a wonderland as is the West in general. Living in California was the same except for the kooks out there.

I don’t think anybody will leave the SEC, but I think there are a couple of schools that would want to join the B1G, if they got their choice. It’s been alleged that the B1G was the first preference of both OU and Mizzou, and that both were declined. It’s a narrative that I personally buy. Presidents make these decisions, and presidents love associating with academic heavy0hitters.

Its all about strengthening the B12 now. Be it alliances, PR, bowls, sponsors, whatever.

The next big nuclear war will be between the PAC and the B12 to see who owns the eyeballs and trophies west of the Mississippi. From a purely competitive standpoint I like the league’s chances…even more with the additions.

Yup. We just moved to Florida because my wife has some serious heart/ lung issues. Made the decision to come back to sea level to make it easier on her…

For the last 9 years we lived on Lake Tahoe, about halfway up Heavenly on the NV side at 6,500 feet. Spartan lifestyle is exactly correct. The most physically active folks I’ve ever known. Not uncommon to hear my neighbor snow skiing in the morning, then water skiing or paddle boarding in the afternoon…

My take on Cali sports tv viewers is a little different though. Home grown folks are supremely proud of their Cali snobbery, and casually browse The Game (Stanford v Cal), while they are more interested in the charcuterie and aperitifs…Midwestern transplants (Wisc/Mich/etc) (and there are a ton of them) are supremely interested in everything Big 10/ MAC…and MW folks (NV/UNLV/Fresno/SDS etc) love their sports.

So Cali sports tv has a LOT of eyeballs not necessarily as disinterested in college football as you may think…

Just my observation…

What got us to this point is winning and facilities upgrades (coupled with a huge azz market).

The huge azz shows no sign of getting smaller, so I would suggest we win and we keep improving facilities. Realignment is going to happen every 10 years it seems. So for the 10 years you are in a conference you better win or you will end up being USF.

No. I agree there are a lot of people in the west that love college football. I’m more describing the PAC member mindset vs. the general run-of-the-mill fan.

I just think you are never going to scare a PAC AD or president into expanding or leaving because of what someone in Georgia or S Carolina make from TV.

Californians think they live in their own country. They’re probably under the impression those states use Confederate currency.
