Those coaches will have a whole new set of bosses…
The government (not that I really want that but the conferences and schools have proven they can’t police themselves without a better construct of rules) should have intervened decades ago (to create rules and framework), but this is crossing the line. This simply cannot happen. Not only is it awful for the entirety of college athletics, I think it will be the lynch pin that could drive fans away.
I certainly won’t support this.
Yeah, if some PI company comes to me for donations “to support athletics,” the answer is gonna be a hard no.
Whittingham wants to sell the future to compete his last season.
You’d hope the conference wouldn’t want any part of this… but Yormark’s probably trying to get the same foolish deal for the conference.
I am obviously missing something with the PE deals. PE is to provide capital for growth such as a restaurant opening 3 new stores, then that new revenue streams pays back the investment. Unless they are building more seats for revenue, not sure what the PE is providing that will provide more revenue.
I did read a Utes board and they think it is to build themselves up for a Big 10 invite (They badly want out of the Big 12). Maybe $100 million dollar rosters for the next 5 years will get them in the Big 10 in 5 years?
Either that or they are expanding with a Utah team out of Miami and one in Geneva for their international fans…
There are lots of revenue streams but the biggies are the B12 distributions for media and post season etc. I’m sure PE would want a piece of Utah’s share of B12 hoops spinning off and a bigger media deal in 2031 if those happen. If Utah becomes the bell cow they can in theory make demands for larger shares or even move to B1G. Just a guess on what PE is betting on.
Utah has such delusions of grandeur. Do they realize how few people really care about them? ![]()
Would help if they had a basketball team first!
Might as well invest in Gonzaga football. Probably makes more money ![]()
lol I get your point but Utah gets their slice of what ISU, AZ, KU and UH earns for them when it comes to hoops.
I know i know. Couldn’t help myself
So the PE firm is investing in welfare.
Financial institutions taking advantage of those desperate for immediate cash is nothing new.
Doing a little more reading and one phrase stands out that I have not seen people comment on.
Talks about forming a for-profit entity to control Utah athletics. This can be a huge game change in many ways for college athletics. Revenue would be very different since who will donate to a for profit company? How about tax write offs? Does this officially make college football a minor league?
Still stunning how quickly the trigger was pulled to get a new coach. Does Rodgers have any history with ISU?
Have you been to Lubbock? What is there to do but drive your tractor around?
You’ve obviously never experienced the Texas Ranching Heritage Center, the Windmill Museum, or Prairie Dog Town.
And there’s a lake, too.

You are not getting paid to be “right”.” You’re being paid to fight.
What a terrible comment.
Dude, I’m from Plains. And I rode a motorcycle in the middle of winter to get to Houston.
Y’all have a real nice Allsup’s there, and that Yoakum Co. Golf Course isn’t terrible - not as nice as Gaines, though. ![]()
