Big 12 Football 2025-2026

You’re welcome…

Mullet notwithstanding, he was a heckofacoach in his career. Not sure where he goes from here, or who will replace him? He had a “little” help from Boone Pickens….

Mike Gundy contract, buyout details

Gundy’s new contract runs through 2028 and pays him $6.75 million in 2025 with a $125,000 raise annually. Unlike most coaching contracts that have a percentage buyout, Gundy’s new deal has a flat rate buyout structure. If he’s fired in the first three years of the deal, Oklahoma State will pay him $15 million. If he’s fired in the fourth year of the deal, his buyout is $10 million.

That’s a lot of money.

Both 6 and 7 honestly. I’m not the one who highlighted this.

You going?

That stadium is pretty cool how it’s in the middle of the campus.

I went to the AAC Championship game when Tune & Dell were balling out for the Coogs.

Iowa state travels well.

Agree, plus it will take $15 million for him to walk. Being a former player and proven that he can win, they probably stay with him. But most teams in B12 have improved except OSU and Utah.

Just saw they canned him

No. Because of my job, I can basically only go to the non-con or last game of the year for football. Maaaaaaybe last two but sometimes neither.

I wish. One of my retirement goals is just follow the team to road games. Thats still like 30 years away tho

Edit: Corn and bean harvest is just starting in the last week or so. But specifically in my work territory it hasn’t quite started. Any day now.

Fun fact: That’s part of the reason we are traditionally more of a “basketball school”. My winter is wiiiiiiiiiiide open! Same with a lot of Iowa State grads. Yes, i still put in 40 hr weeks during that time, but the weather kind of makes it so you can’t really do anything substantially productive even if you wanted to. My employer is begging us to take PTO then.

Well with T Boone Pickens gone, RIP, i pretty much guarantee they got pretty unanimous consensus from their remaining more modest “big donors” that now is the time and it’s not negotiable if OSU wants all the dollars promised to do it with.

Those phone calls certainly came with the money to fire him in hand, and probably to cover his replacement depending on the price range of said targets. (Wont be particularly high I bet)

Sounds like to me they’ve been maneuvering for this day for over a year now. And I’m sure they had all their ducks in a row.

Still, to your point, not the preferred scenario no doubt. It’s likely a lose-lose scenario fromt their POV. Our NIL director was talking about how dire their financial situation is right now. I feel bad for them. That could very easily be Iowa State. KSU, ISU, and OSU are very similar institutions and finances is no exception.

Without T Boone tho, the order of $$$ is laid out exactly as typed. The Thunder’s success and OU SEC move has robbed them of A LOT of corporate sponsorship money they used to get, and that was when their Golden Goose was still kicking too.

Yeah… not going to find much sympathy for them around here… we were on the outs for 20 years and rose from the ashes…

And Gundy didn’t want us back in.

For sure. I don’t really care. Just that I could envision a world where it coulda been us.

Beyond that at the end of the day, oh well. Sucks to suck lol

I did not know that.

In 2016 he said he didn’t want another Texas school in the conference because it would hurt their recruiting…

In 2021 he toed the line and said all 4 schools were good additions…

Well in his defense he was right. Lol

Oh, yeah i actually kinda remember something about that now that you mention it.

No harm no foul here! ISU recruits Texas about as lightly as anybody.

If anything…Houston stole Koziol from OUR recruiting territory! (Illinois)

As far as I’m concerned, 12 giant TEs is not enough. That 13th big TE would have put us over the top, and you stabbed us in the back :wink:

Saw where the ACC is also going to adopt a 9 game conference slate with a requirement to schedule 1 P4 opp in the non-conference.

Yup. Yormark talked about that on air in Ireland.

SEC is the last holdout on 9 game schedule, i believe.
