I would be more pumped next offseason than I have been in a long time if the season played out this way.
Pumped, staying with my prediction of 8 or more wins and playing in the conference championship game.
Qualifier- QB1 minimizes throwing picks Parker stays relatively healthy.
Not sure why everyone is decrying the makeup of this new unit, it’s not like last years starters we’re tearing up wins.
UNLV is a good team. They have an outstanding offense with an all-American WR and 4 experienced OL returning from last years team that averaged 34 ppg. If we can manage to beat them I think we’ll go to win at least 6 games. If our defense struggles and we get rolled, I think it’s fair to say we’re in for a long season.
My hope is that we see fundamentally sound football and we get better as a season goes along. I still think we surprise one or two teams where we’re predicted to lose. Fritz is the right coach to build this program into consistent winning football program. It might take a few years (hopefully sooner) but we’ll get there.
Respectfully, UNLV is not a good team. They’ve never been a good team. If we can’t beat them, and somewhat easily, we are in trouble.
Don’t jinx us.
Actually, as I’ve posted elsewhere, we got really lucky when their starting QB went into the transfer portal with no clear replacement available.
If that guy were back, plus all the other offensive starters they have returning, against our unproven defense with only one or two starters back…it could be brutal.
Fortunately, they’ll be breaking in a new QB, and I suspect our receivers will be able to get open for Donovan Smith. Let’s hope the OLine can give him enough time.
Our receivers need to be able to blow their corners out of the water. (Assuming the qb has time.) I know the line is like 1.5, but for me to feel good about the game we need to win by multiple scores.
Also, fun fact for you, UNLV has never been ranked in the AP top 25. Another fun fact, UNLV is my local team… ugh.
This pre-season “tier” ranking has us in a 12-ish tier of teams that weren’t very good last year, and fired their coaches, together with Michigan State, etc.
I mean, that’s not rock bottom, given that there are more than 17 tiers, but it ain’t good.
They win a lot of games last year, but who did they beat?
From what I can tell, their most impressive win was over an Air Force team that also won 9 games.
Rice hasn’t been ranked since 7 years before UNLV started playing football.
I agree, I have us at 5-7 but very competitive in games. But I see a lot of people having us at 1-2 wins and I just have to believe Fritz’s pulls in more.
We beat unlv by 2 scores
Everyone is underestimating our new defense and coaching staff
Including coogfans
That goes both ways. Give them a chance before u claim they’re bad just bc 1 started from last year is returning. Have faith in Fritz’s and staff, they will get it together.
None is considered a top prospect, so no.
The onus is on them to prove otherwise.
I agree completely
“The Big 12: Deepest conference in country.”
https://x.com/JoelKlattShow/status/1828160491799355589
Does this mean they think the Big 12 will get the highest number of playoff bids among the P4 Conferences?
Having a bunch of mediocre teams does NOT equal Depth
Depth means more than that though.
The B1G for example, might get multiple teams in the playoffs, but that doesn’t make it deep.
Why not?
Because the bottom half of the B1G is often VERY bad and parasitic.
So…if the Big 12 is highly competitive but only produces ONE playoff squad, as reviewed and voted on by a panel of experts, yet the SEC and B1G each produce 4-5 playoff worthy squads- are you still stating the Big 12 is the deepest conference when THEIR BEST would be #4 or #5 in the P2?
