Fritz’s mulligan year, 4-8. But I predict much better football being played.
If UH could sneak up on Oklahoma and pull out a victory on the road, it could turn the whole season, no make that program, around. UH would be the toast of the town and the culture turnaround goes on steroids. Believe.
I don’t see any tougher games on this schedule than the one we had last year against Texas that we should have won.
We will be competitive in every game. 8-4 is where I have us. Fritz is a winner.
Methinks CWF has the same mentality as CKS. Focus on winning plays.
In basketball, it may be tipping the ball out for a rebound. In football, it could be downing a punt inside the 20.
Winning plays and few turnovers can win a lot of games.
247 bowl projections has us playing Kentucky in the Liberty Bowl.
IT was injury.
They were incorrectly using HS weights when talking about size upfront from transfer portal - even making point that one OL hopefully adds weight to his frame this summer (Jake Wiley is well over 300 vs thinking he is still 250 HS weight). Why do a podcast if you don’t bother to look up current data from 247 or school rosters. ![]()
I’m down with that, that’s a fun bowl to go to.

6-6 is our floor (shown above)…but we show tremendous progress even with that record.
Lack of depth hits us in the middle of the season.
We possibly go 7-5 or even 8-4 if we can fight through the depth issues.
We have a veteran NFL prospect type quarterback PLUS a coach that is hungry to succeed…those two factors should not be underestimated.
4-8 is probably the floor and for a transition year, matching the previous disaster, not bad to begin the build.
That said, most of our guys that transferred out, I never heard of, although we lost a few. I believe Fritz is a better evaluator of transfer talent and bought in some studs, more than we lost.
Better coaching would have won us at least a couple more games last year and will this year.
Better coaching will lead to a lot less stupid penalties which can lead to more wins.
I think we surprise this year.
Our record could be as low as 2-10 or as high as 6-6. Really depends on how well Smith plays and if our line play improves on both sides of the ball.
CWF has performed a miracle from a recruiting standpoint that will take time to take shape and show results (wins); however, I really believe there will be some very positive signs and growth made over the course of this season.
That is what I’m looking for from CWF and the program, something he can build on, get recruits and fans excited about.
Also, Fritz’s results shows how much time UH wasted under Dana’s tenure, having to build a new program and culture from the ground up. CDH knew we were going to the Big 12 and in hindsight he did a terrible job building the program to meet the task. I supported him like most because he was our head coach, but it was painfully obvious last season and in his recruiting game that he was barely a part timer getting a full time paycheck plus bonus. He’s the definition “all hat, no cowboy”.
Personally, I’d be embarrassed if I left a job like Dana did, only to have my employer, my replacement and the industry I where I made a good living, all to find out that I didn’t do anything close to a good job.
Let’s Go Fritz and GO COOGS!
This is really a tough year to make a prediction, but should be a fun year of unpredictability with new staff and roster turnover.
In six decades of watching the Coogs one thing is consistent; we are pretty good at snicking up on a team, but can turn right around and lay an egg a few weeks later. I’ll guess 3 - 5 wins and hope for 6 or 7.
I’m going to say 7-5 and one of those gypsy 2nd tier bowls based on blind faith and optimism. That would be a nice way to kickstart the CWF era!
I have a feeling CDH left his competitive fire on a barstool.
If we go 1-11, I just hope that one win is against Rice.

i know he committed a while ago but this was a very under the radar great pickup for us. This pickup is a prime example why I think it’s fair that people are low on us, but when you add context we could definitely be a sleeper 7 win team. I have us at 5-7 rn due to the toughness of our schedule. But I think this team has a higher ceiling than people think.
Carter was at Utah state in 2022, transferred to Baylor but didn’t enroll. Sat out a year and trained. Now he’s committed to the coogs. While this pickup isn’t going to make headlines, he could very well end up being one of our best DBs.
“Started nine of the 10 games he played in… Finished the season with 44 tackles (29-solo, 15-assist), which included 1.0 tackles for loss, to go along with five pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one interception and one quarterback hurry… Tied for the team lead in forced fumbles and was third in pass breakups”
- had offers from UH, Penn State, BYU, Indiana, and Baylor in last years transfer portal. Hes a very physical corner with great size and fluidity. Fritz’s knows how the find these gems.

We are definitely a sleeper, Kmoney! I think we’ll be a big surprise in 2024. Hope we can win 6 or 7 games and get things going again. Good info on the Carter kid at DB. He’ll be a big contributor for us at DB next year. Another nugget mined by CWF.
