This could all happen before the season starts…who would have thought we’d be a lame duck AAC member when we open up vs Texas Tech.

That’s the short sided way of looking at it. If the big 12 is just TT, TCU and BU the Big 12 drops precipitously in relevance in Texas. UH is no UT but helps keep the Big 12 visible in TX.
Also, McClain said Texas didn’t want us in Big 12 because of recruiting. If left out of the Big 12 by the three remaining TX for the same reason, then it’s true what is said on this board often. They’re scared of us.

I agree, and their relevance in Houston in particular is in doubt.
But I’ve heard the same arguments from UH fans regarding UTSA.
Worse. Even when they’re down to their last breath, they’re still scared of us. Comical

This is purely Thamel’s slight against UH. The Arizona schools will not abandon USC, UCLA or Oregon to come shackle up with Texas Tech in Lubbock or Baylor in Waco.
The BIG12 actually needs UH and that Houston market

Not the same way. The basketball only school component isn’t there and schools being poached by other conferences is limited

If PAC or ACC (or the SEC --puff, puff, pass) are an option then obviously you go there. If not, a hybrid Big 12/AAC is better than AAC… Especially with several years of Big 12 money.
This is Big East redux, but that was a good move for us (see Rice).
