Big 12 / Pac 12 / B10 Expansion Thread (Part 1)

ESPN has no interest in having 2 super conferences one of their Execs has said as much. 2 superconferences mean they would be like the NFL and you see the type of money the NFL is getting for their media rights, ESPN doesn’t want that. Besides 2 SC’s would change CFB for the worse not better, CFB survives on fan hope like TCU there team will be the Cinderella story. That’s precious to the sport

Large public schools in Big markets are going to be the biggest winners in a post NIL world

FIFY.

Temple is a big market public school, as is UTSA.

Guess what? They’re both going nowhere.

UTSA went from nothing to a hot upcoming brand in record time and have a very bright future.

Temple has issues getting a stadium but they ARE the University of Philadelphia, if they had more internal investment they would be a brig growth stock.

Both are small brands with small followings, and as such, are going nowhere.

They have probably plateaued already.

Hell, Washington is in a major market (Seattle), and is a way bigger brand than UH.

Even they didn’t interest the B1G.

It is what it is.

Temple just beat the #1 basketball team in the country. Both them and UTSA, and Tulane, are on the rise.

So?

Brand size is mostly about FOOTBALL.

In FOOTBALL, Temple is one of the smallest brands around.

They’re going nowhere.

Neither are Tulane and UTSA. They will stay right where they are.

What happens if the P5 remain but the media players create a de facto P2, but giving SEC/B1G media deals that are 3 times as high as those for the other conferences?

Dunno how much of a Cinderella story TCU was given that the the NC game ratings were pretty bad.

I would say that the antitrust case is tougher to make there.

For all intents and purposes, that situation ALREADY exists, with the B1G getting what…two or three times what the Big 12 gets in terms of money.

Correct?

So that’s probably no big deal.

But if the P2 splits off and start trying to fix prices, monopolize TV money, etc., and take other anti-competitive measures, then I think that Congress…and possibly the justice department will get involved.

If you’re the SEC of Big Ten, that’s what you focus on. Keep putting more distance between yourself in the rest. Maintain the illusion of inclusion for the sake of anti-trust treatment and the mythology about it all being something greater than profit for the sake of tax treatment.

Then just count the money.

In 2016, more people (mainly international students) from my high school were applying to Temple than Houston. Back then, it was the expectation of UT or TAMU, and the rest were just there.

Heck nowadays, you still hear UT or TAMU then people are like “Nah Houston” lol.

“That an Aggie ring?” - nope, a UH ring.

With the 12 team playoffs , the sec and Big10 will be happy and so will the rest.

Temple is a really good school and that will work its favor as far as realignment goes. On the other hand, the city seems to throw a fit whenever they talk about building a stadium which not only means not only do they not get a stadium but also that they don’t actually have the support of city leadership.

They’ll be candidates for the ACC or Big 12 if they get raided deeply enough. As would Tulane. Pretty high up on the ACC’s list.

UTSA needs the Pac-12 to get hit very, very hard.

I’ve spent a bunch of time in Philly. It is a pro sports city. Rabidly so. Temple has a much bigger uphill climb than UH. They are probably permanently G5, which will be perfectly okay with most of their alums. You think interest in UH is spotty?

They gave up.
The people against it are just too well organized & funded without the City Of Philly forcing the issue.

Temple took a pretty thorough beating when they tried to build an on campus stadium a few years ago.

The locals literally made a group called The Stadium Stompers and even got the nayor involved to shut it down.

UH, Cincy and UCF have a drastically better relationship with the surrounding neighborhood than Temple does with theirs.

Really sad… that will always limit their potential.
